Even as the group of anomalies parted from the scene, Pluto intentionally walked a bit further back as he transformed back into a near human form. No more wings, hook-shaped claws, and dark fur to make him appear like some dangerous creature. The only trace of physiology that did not belong to a human were his cup-shaped ears at the top of his head. On his way back towards their ship, he remained connected to the conversations afar despite distancing himself. Given how loud of a voice the marine captain possesses, it didn’t take much adjusting of his ears to hear them loud and clear.
He had no objection to Xin Gi’s decision to kill off the woman once and for all. Having someone else bloody their hands in his stead would be even better. With all these marines around, it probably wasn’t even worth trying to take Scarlette’s bounty. Miraculously, none of them seemed to mention him whatsoever. The winged zoan-user remained nothing more than a fading memory to them; it seemed. As much as he appreciated having a low cover, it amazed him how little effort he had to put in.
Bang!
A gunshot echoed out, causing both Ara and Rebecca to flinch. The two girls silently went on their way with the younger one constantly turning around to keep an eye on the boy. They may have assumed that Scarlette had been shot and finished. Even the eavesdropper assumed that for a moment until a woman’s voice intervened. The female voice matched sound of Scarlette’s mother, someone who he eavesdropped a few days ago but paid very little attention to her. It seemed her name was Clementine as stated by Xin Gi.
What a pity. I was kind of hoping that captain’s religious loyalty to justice would actually pull through with it. These lowly ranked marines sure are useless after all – can’t even take down a motionless carcass. Oh well, at the very least, the World Government should have no complaints about me.
He chuckled on the inside.
How ironic. I’m with the Revolutionary Army. I suppose... that makes them all of them my enemies. Oh well..., it’s not like they have any useful information about me. All of their attention is glued onto Scarlette; I’m just a shadow in the background to them.
“!” His eyes widened from a strange disturbance that washed over him. It was the same sensation as a few days ago.
Just what is that thing? What did Ara call it again? Hou... –something- Haki? Now that I think about it, Libeccio said something about Haki as well.”
Far ahead of him, Ara turned around in response but reluctantly continued walking after gulping down her curiosity. Rebecca seemed to have staggered a bit as she felt the strange sensation as well, “Huh? I feel strange...”
“Are you alright?” Pluto readied himself to dash forth in case the little one falls over.
“I think so...”
“You’ll be fine,” Ara informed quietly in the distance just as she approached the ship, once again indicating knowing something about this phenomenon. Eventually, she stepped into their ship that had a large gaping hole at the front and the side. The vessel remained afloat for now; it appeared that the water levels weren’t high enough to enter through the openings. At the state of this wooden piece of junk, it’d be more worthwhile to obtain a brand new ship than to repair this one.
Rebecca turned around once again, watching her older brother standing in place right before the dock, “Are you coming?”
“Not yet..., go on inside and dry off. I’ll likely come inside soon.”
With that, the little girl went on inside, following Ara’s lead.
As if fate wanted to go against his expectations, his ears perked up at the sound of Clementine’s breath and footsteps being on the move towards his general direction. While he had never seen the woman in combat, his impression on that woman was that she wasn’t much of a fighter, or at the very least, she wasn’t as dangerous as her daughter. The only extraordinary feat about her was when she unleashed some invisible, oppressive wave that washed over them, and for some reason, his little sister fainted from it a few days ago. The only one who seemed to know what that was would be Ara.
“Hmm...,” Pluto stood like a stature after morphing his bat ears back into human ears. Perhaps he was just paranoid; but he couldn't help but question if that woman was following him or merely heading in his diretion by coincidence.
