“Hm…? What took you so long to get back, Miss Rosa–soyo?” asked the winged wanderer, Libeccio, from the courtyard of Eldoran Island’s Marine base. Piercing blue eyes met just for a moment with smouldering irises of ruddy orange, but turned away within the second. Behind him stood rank and file of Seamen and Petty Officers, all dressed in their typical white and blue uniforms, and all bearing sabres and rifles or other weapons. Before them stood three other individuals, each dressed in green, red and blue respectively. The man in green, slender and bespectacled, wore something more akin to a suit and tie. The fellow in red wore a patchwork of metal and hide armour over a mail tunic, covering his girth and revealing only a gruff façade. The latter – the fellow in blue – was a top heavy fellow, baring his chest and wearing some sort of martial artist’s Gi.“We were worried about you,” said the green one:
“Though, I was one hundred percent certain you’d return!”
“Percival… Frank… Dec…,” Clementine noted as she turned to each of them, in order, and gave them all nods of recognition: “Wasn’t there supposed to be another one of you guys…?”“H–”“H–”“H–”“Horatio~!”
“Here are the waterworks again,” the woeful woman sighed, watching in bemusement as the three men embraced each other in a sappy hug and broke into torrents of tears at the howl of their comrade’s name.
“Seeing my daughter again was certainly an experience – soon I hope to never have to repeat it,” Clementine uttered to Libeccio, who had walked quietly to stand beside her. His calm, collected demeanour seemed to wane little by little with every conversation they shared, or maybe he was more aware of what had happened just a few days ago than she had considered. He always did pick up on unusual things – things even the most observant of people should not know: “But, I was right, I was in no danger. She’s in a sorry state, and wouldn’t kill me, anyway. That would go completely against her twisted compass. She’s as good as d–”“You still cannot control your Haki, can you–soyo?”
The Sky Islander’s voice was soft as the wind:
“I felt that outburst from over here–soyo…”“I don’t even want this ‘gift’.”
“Have you looked at the Vivre Card since you saw her–soyo?” the blond quizzed, raising a thin eyebrow. Clementine hesitated, but reached into the folds of her sleeve to extract the singed piece of parchment that had helped her trace her offspring – a card made from a memory to be used as a weapon. Just looking at it reminded her of her daughter’s first nail clipping, where soft and ticklish baby feet kicked and squirmed in protest and tiny hands no longer than her own fingers gripped tightly. A shake of the head dismissed images that, despite once seeming so sweet, now left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Eyes fell upon the tattered shred–“What!?”“The card reacts to her life force–soyo,” Libeccio explained:
“It burns wh–?”
“I f*€%ing know that!” Clementine screeched. The air seemed to crackle. Upon her hand lay a sheet of paper, still a bit ragged at its corners, but otherwise the same size as a small envelope. The burnt edges had vanished – fibrous weave had healed momentously in just a couple of short days. Miraculous it might have seemed, but it was also outright terrifying, and that urgency showed upon the punished woman as she yelled: “How in Hell’s accursed name did she recover this quickly!?”-~-
Munch! Munch! Munch! Settled in a corner of a rather rundown restaurant, a table all to herself, Scarlette Grimm-Rosa chewed away at yet another meal. Practically left to rot in the streets of El Town by her own maternity, stripped of strength and barely able of anything more than breathing in her bandaged and toppled state, she would have been as good as dead. That would have been the case had not a kind and unwitting soul stumbled upon her and taken her in, sheltering her for the last two days at his local business, a small establishment in a far corner of the settlement called ‘Bamboozled’. A kind man he seemed, albeit struggling to make a profit, and had further damaged his chances by offering the wounded woman all the sustenance she could have needed.
“I’m amazed she can eat that much in one sitting,” said one of the very few patrons of the place; a scurvy-looking sailor of bygone annals, missing teeth and with a ragged bush of a beard to contrast his bald and spotted head. From his own seat near the counter he flicked through a newspaper, peering over at the girl as she wolfed down what must have been her third helping of rare rump steak. Blood sausage, strips of fatty bacon and lamb’s liver also adorned the mostly meat-based dishes, accentuating a ruddy theme in the shady corner of the shop.
“Just one day and she was fine without the casts on her arm and leg,” the restaurant owner said, delivering a slightly more meagre example of a lunch meal to the wizened patronage. His voice hushed, he spoke: “I’m sorry it’s less than usual, but she’s eaten most of this week’s stock already…”“Got a thing for her, have you? Eheheheh~”“Uh, no,” the owner shook his head:
“Too much of a– uh– ‘pancake’ for my taste…”
“I’d like pancakes!” chirped Scarlette, albeit through meaty mouthfuls. Sure enough, most of the heavier wrappings confining her body had been peeled off little by little, giving her a far greater degree of mobility than she had upon arrival. Torn flesh had mended, leaving mild but fading scars, and bones had healed from various fractures. Indeed, only some of her deepest wounds sustained in her clash against Varuna’s Four Commanders remained – the deep gashes of Chika the Mermaid’s envenomed blades, and the piercing holes created by Jiro the Fishman’s liquid projectiles. The damage inflicted by Ruggard’s punches was primarily internal, but it seemed that she had recovered swiftly from that, too. And, to top it all off, her body had received enough in the way of electrical shocks to give an unusual resistance to such things.
With innocent intonation and bright smile she waved a fork:
“I need something sweet, too~!”“A– Alright! Coming right up~!”{OOC}
