Senshi's explanation of why she thought she had committed a crime made more sense to Junzo and helped him to better understand the burden that was on the Ensign. The fruit that she had eaten could have been worth hundreds of millions of Beri, a huge sum the likes of which Junzo would never see in his life even if he reached the rank of Admiral of the Navy. Soldiers just weren't paid that much. And they didn't need that much money anyways. As he was thinking about the cost of the fruit that she had eaten, she laid another surprise on him.
"Once one eats a devil fruit, they will become cursed by the sea and will never be able to to swim again."
N-never able to swim again?? That was a high price to pay, especially with so much of the world covered in water. What if her ship sprung a leak? What if Pirates attacked them on the open seas? Right then and there, Junzo decided that he'd never ever eat a Devil Fruit. It would have to be forced upon him and shoved down his throat before he'd ever eat one. However, he did like the gift that Senshi gave him. He still didn't understand why she was being so nice to him when he had been annoying and big mouthed, but she was patient and forgiving, gifting him with a beautiful lead knife with an engraving of a dragon on the hilt. Junzo treated the gift with the utmost respect, handling it carefully and adding it to his belt alongside the knives that were passed down from his family line to him.
"I don't know what to say. I'm not sure what I've done to deserve such a gift, but I will treasure it, Ensi... Senshi." Correcting himself to not be offensive when she just told him what to call her, he stopped addressing her by her complete title and just addressed her by name. They went their separate ways, both heading to where they'd sleep for the night. Junzo to the rough barrack tent, Senshi to the officer's tent.
The boy slept, but not particularly well. Taking a life for the first time still weighed heavily on his heart and he tossed and turned as he dreamed of holding the bloody head in his hands. In his dream, he suddenly saw through the eyes of the Dryad and had flashbacks of "tree babies" and "tree families" that would never see their mother again. It was all in his head, probably, as the Dryads were made of trees. For all he knew, it was the power of another mysterious Devil Fruit that had caused these trees to come to life and he shouldn't feel guilty for letting them fall back to their normal tree life. Or something like that. Dream Junzo was very confused by the whole situation, but it was confusing enough that he didn't dwell on the "I killed someone" aspect for too long and eventually got some restful sleep towards the early morning.
Junzo was one of the last to the breakfast line as he had been up later than most for guard duty. Senshi was already there, looking like she had passed out due to the smell of the food. "Ensign Odayakama. It's your turn for the food." Wanting to be formal in front of the rest of the company, he chose to again call her by her proper title and surname instead of being so informal with her in front of everybody. He didn't want to get punished for insubordination, after all, and some of the Warrant Officers around would have no problem giving him a painful punishment for messing up. He shuddered at the thought of having to swab the ship's decks with a toothbrush again...
