The chirping of birds, the sound of waves, the laughter of children and the chatter of women out doing their daily routine all rang out on the sunshine bathed island called Karate, a place known for it’s masters of many skills and martial arts. All around the town the sounds of practising and sparring could be heard, it was not hard to find a place to sit and watch someone practising their skills, training their bodies or testing their will here. One such person testing their will was wandering around the outskirts of the of the town, a look of loss on her face. This young woman was looking all over the place, looking for something, and the few things that caught her attention for a second only made her smile before she carried on scanning her surroundings with cat like eyes.
“I swear it was around here...” She murmured, talking to herself as she continued to wander the treeline, her pale pink eyes not settling on one thing for too long. The gentle breeze managed to tussle her loose pink hair as the sun glistened off of it. This unusual looking girl was made to look even more unusual because of two things, the dark metal dress she was wearing over her navy swimsuit and the large circular shield that was on her back. This island was known for it’s unusual combat styles, it even had practitioners of fishman karate. However, some one who wielded just a shield was completely new and foreign to this place. So strange in fact the occasional kid would stop in the road and stare, the occasional mother would offer her a gentle smile and ask if she was looking for something.
To the children this pink haired explorer would smile. To the mothers she answered with “I’m fine, just explor~ing!”. After that she would bow her head and carry on walking, looking for something. It was as she approached a run down looking dojo that the young woman would seem fixated, it interested her… it was as if something inside of it was calling to her. Begging for her just to come inside and see what was within. As with any curious girl the pink haired femme would carry on, following the instinct to explore, to find out more.
Inside there was only a single man, in his later years sat in the middle looking at a wall, apart from his bald head the young woman could not make too many details out on him. As she put her heavy foot over the threshold and into the matted room the man visibly shifted with the sound of the soft thud. She took another step, again the soft thud of her heavy foot made the man shift and shiver. Then the soft thudding started to get faster and louder as she walked closer to him. “Uhmmmm Escu-” she started, cut off before she could finish.
“Yes Excuse you! Why are you still wearing your dirty boots? You are in a dojo, a place of learning!” He said, still not turning around. He sounded annoyed and highly agitated, his guff tone especially grinding on the younger woman's softer and kinder voice. “What’s your name? Why are you here?” He asked, still not looking.
“I… I… I am November! I’m looking for something i lost, i knew i left it on this island somewhere i just don’t know where.” She said still letting her eyes wander around the old and beaten up dojo. It had a smell that resembled damp and musty, it was dark and what little light there was came from a shrine that was just in front of the man, it was covered in candles, and the doorway Nova had used to enter.
“Okay… I can help. But only if you beat me in a sparring match. These old bones need a work out.” He said before standing tall, he was no taller than Nova, but he did look slightly out of shape. “Go serious on me, i have seen you around town.” He said as he turned to look at the young woman. “You spin around and block the kids punches in a blink, you don't throw a single one! It’s an impenetrable defence i want to break!” He said looking fired up. He was a martial artist after all, a fight with someone who fights so differently to him was more than enough payment for any aide he could give her “If i win you take your boots off and i teach you how to attack!”
Nodding the girl would smile and jump back, pulling the shield around to be attached to her forearm. “Okay mister!” She said cheerfully, keeping the shield out of her sight so the black belt wearing man was easy to see. “Don’t punch the shield too hard… the others hurt themselves and i told them not too but they just did it anyways.” The young nova said in a flustered tone, this sparring match wasn't a fight, she could still show her friendliness.
“Don't worry about me kid!” He said before charging at her, jumping to her left, the side her shield was not on. As his right foot hit the ground he swung around with a left roundhouse kick, he was fast, he was strong and the resounding clang of his ankle hitting the shield hard enough to snap it rang through the room. “Okay….” he said falling back onto his rear and laughing. “Yeah, you are good.” He wheezed out in pain as he looked down at his twisted ankle, a few days of rest and that should be fine… if he were younger he would only need a few hours… but age is a pain.
“I’m sorry… i- i spun around and put my arm up fast and it hit your foot and ooohhh is it broken?! Let me go get a doctor!” She said in a flustered tone as she slipped the great big hunk of metal on her back and moved to get a closer look at it, it should've broken his ankle with the strength he hit her… but it wasn't… it looked twisted and that’s it. “Wow you’re tough! What’s your name? Do you want me to help out a bit while you rest?” She asked wanted to make up for the damage she had caused in the few minutes she was in his dojo.
