Just another exciting moment!

A youth of teenage years, dark of complexion and with bright marine hair pulled into dreadlocks. The youth was male, adorned in what could be considered casual clothing despite the rather sterile environment and the assortments of beakers and modules about him. A lab coat was worn over the shoulders like a cloak, the sleeves torn away and the WG symbol being bastardized to include a cog with wings. This symbol sat squarely between two incisions made into the fabric that allowed two wings, organic at that, to push through and flutter freely from the boy's back.

This was Ikarrus, a Skypeian and cyberneticist extraordinaire!

While to most, this island fortress would be akin to a prison- the young scientist was like a child in a candy shop, playing in the laboratory and with a nearly limitless budget for creating his ideas. This particular day was of import to Ikarrus, an experiment of combining a shark's electromagnetic sensory organ with the complex array of sensor modules he'd attached to a visor. This would allow (hopefully) whoever wore it to get a direct link up to their brain (via implant) that would appear as a series of electrical sparks in the general vicinity of things that gave off a bio-electrical signature. With tweaking, maybe it could even penetrate walls and give the wearer a tactical advantage!

The issue was...as of the moment, the visor effectively limited the visual acuity of the eyes proper. Seeing electrical signatures through walls and across vast distances was great, but if you can't see the barriers inbetween them...well, it was kind of useless.

As such, it was set aside for now. Not because it was going to be abandoned, but perhaps the more focused and individualized organ of the platypus would be better considering their vision? It was worthy of thought at the very least.

For now, he was tweaking the D.A.R.M.A. v1-v2 to try and include more dials but was experiencing a bad error of physical feedback of concussive force whenever a dial was activated above the current three maximum.

SHORT NOTE

"Alright you slugs, get all of these barrels off this ship! Cold hands or not, they aren't gonna move themselves!"

"YES SIR!"

Moving in file with the rest of the recruits and privates, there was a small, yet able bodied young woman who set right to work unloading the ship, despite the frigid temperatures of this portion of the South Blue.

To call these last three weeks some of the worst, in this girl's short, yet troubled existence, would be an understatement. Despite her chosen career path, as a child she had never wanted to be a soldier, and her wisdom as a child was reaffirmed almost every single minute she spent on this ship.

She was not a Marine, in fact, she was close to the exact opposite of everything the Navy stood for. She was a thief, a good one, and her present mark required that she take on the guise of a young pawn of the World Government. It was an easy task to blend in with the rank and file soldiers, as she was anything if not adaptable, but the work was grueling.

However, they had finally reached the destination of their voyage; Viktas. It was a frozen land, but it happened to house one of the largest Marine facility in the Blues and was home to a burgeoning R&D department. Which was where our young imposter needed to be.

It was easy enough to escape her duties as a Marine, slipping into the facility proper when the opportunity presented itself as there was a near endless march of soldiers to and fro. Still amongst large crates and barrels, the teenage girl removed her hat and fur lined jacket, dropping them off in a corner just as dipped into the ventilation system.

It was a cramped, cold space, sterile in it's shiny metallic tunneling that zig zagged throughout the military complex. Reaching into the Q tail of her hair, the caramel wrapped fingers of the young girl, unraveled a small piece of paper that had been written for her infiltration.

"Now, where the heck is this geek farm?"

Kairi was very excited! Viktas! She wanted to come here ever since she became a Marine. It was a sure sign, after all, that she would get a promotion soon, she thought!

Since she arrived, she’d spent the day lugging heavy barrels about from the Marine ship that just docked at the base. With her strength, she could lug about two or three at a time, making the work load a bit easier for her comrades. Besides, the cheerful Marine never shunned hard work!

Trotting into the facility with three barrels stacked on her tiny shoulders, Kairi began to snicker to herself at the thought of being promoted. Her eyes shut as her black shoes clicked against the floor. Apart from the standard uniform of blue long pants, a white, buttoned shirt (with long sleeves), a blue scarf, and a hat with the Marine logo patting down her strawberry blonde hair, she also wore a beige cloak over her shoulders to protect her from the cold.

Kairi sneezed as she passed by an open air vent, failing to notice the opened air vent along the path or the discarded clothing in the corner. She placed the barrels beside the others, unwittingly concealing the clothing further. She thought she heard an odd shuffling sound for a moment, but figured it was most likely the wind howling through the facility’s corridors.

Ignorant of any sign of the intruder, the Marine continued along the path outside. She’d carried her share of the barrels and the other Marines were about done, so it was time for her to head to the laboratory. She was asked to assist whoever worked there with whatever they were doing. Apparently, it had something to do with fish, and since Kairi liked fish so much, her commanding officer figured she’d be of at least some use.

Arriving before the door to the laboratory, she rapped at the entrance eagerly, almost too enthusiastically and loud enough to echo through the whole hallway. “Hello? Hi! Hi! Is anyone home? Hello?” chirped the gleeful girl, blue-green eyes aglow.

Three salutations, three greetings. A friendly way to engage anyone and show enthusiasm, normally Ikarrus would be psyched!

Ikarrus forgot about having put in a work order for assistance. As such, when the marine showed up at the door to his lab and hailed him from it, Ikarrus let out a shriek of surprise and accidentally dropped the left arm (or D.A.R.M.A. v1) he was tinkering with. The shriek ended but a sudden second shriek rang out as Ikarrus's sense of time seemed to slow down while watching the descent of his project.

The D.A.R.M.A. v1 currently was equipped with two breath dials and an axe dial. While normally, the breath dials were harmless and the axe dial a minor threat if outside of range- these dials put together and within his weapon to boot....well, Ikarrus was suddenly wondering if he was wearing his brown boxer-briefs today. Like most people, he tried the only thing one can do in that situation to try and lessen the fall or maybe have the palm pointed elsewhere.

He kicked it gently.

Of course in any other circumstance this would have worked wonderfully, instead- the D.A.R.M.A. v1 suddenly went off and proceeded to shred and shatter a variety of his lab equipment with the sudden onslaught of pressurized air blades. To add insult to injury, the resulting explosion of the small chemical vials he'd had set for creating a gas reaction also went off and launched the experimental visor he was working on through the grate of the air duct and rattling along into it's chambers.

Ikarrus stood stock still, mentally checking that all his digits and limbs were still firmly attached and not embedded with glass or had suddenly found themselves devoid of a pound or two of flesh. With his mental check complete, Ikarrus relaxed marginally and let out a sigh of relief and tension. Peeking over his shoulder at the woman who had said hello, he gave a tentative little wave and sheepish grin.

" Umm, so yeah. Hi there. Uhh, I'm Dr. Seilk but you can call me Ikarrus. Uhh, so yeah...uhh...I think you're here as my assistant, right? So, like...uhh...maybe, um...let's clean up a bit? Yeah, that sounds good. Seems prudent, yup," He laughed nervously, rubbing the back of his head and smearing grease into his dreads.

Unraveling the rather wrinkled piece of parchment took a great deal of delicacy, as it had been rolled up for weeks now and the combination of sweat and wear and tear had taken a toll. However, our young infiltrator was anything if not precise and even though it took extra care, her directions to the research lab was unrolled without incident. However, the look on her face told otherwise. Much to her surprise and chagrin, some of the carefully drawn lines had been blurred, no longer was her destination particularly clarified, it seemed that there would a good amount of guess work needed.

"Shit!" exclaimed the teenage burglar in a hushed voice. Just then she heard a sneeze that was far too close for comfort and immediately the girl brought herself in, trying to be as small as possible in the already tight space. She couldn't call herself a true master thief if she happened to get caught before the caper even truely began. After a few moments, and making sure the coast was clear, she unfolded herself and prepared to get on her way. Giving her botched directions a second look, the acrobatic girl cursed her luck as she began her journey.

Nimbly, she crawled through the horizontal portion of the vents, making as much headway as she could, because she was on a time limit; the Marine ship that she had come to Viktas on, would be leaving as soon as the troops unloaded the barrels and were able to restock. It was a treacherous jaunt, with steep vertical climbs, sudden drops and almost nothing to grip on, but she made it work. There were a few instances where she passed by some "questionable" things, but seeing as this was a center for research and development, Addisu figured that it was to be expected that there would be some weird sightings. But she knew what she was looking for and none of these happened to be it.

The young girl's pace had slowed considerably, she was now lost, her own educated inference as to which way to go had run it's course and she was now completely on her own. Crawling slowly the girl came to a complete halt as she heard quite a bit of ruckus coming from the room below, on que, an object came crashing through the vent and whizzed by her, barely missing her head. Hugging the bottom of the shaft that she was in, the young girl made no sudden movements as she was unsure as to what exactly had just happened. SHe could make out the object that came through the vent just beneath her, but it had rattled along to the other side of the vent.

She had to see to see what it was. Reaching out for it, the girl leaned just a tad bit over the vent. Maybe this trip won't be too bad after al-

Suddenly the metallic, sterile world that she had become accustomed to over the last ten minutes fell away and was replaced by the dusty innards of a labratory fresh off of an accident. Crashing onto an unoccupied table, (lucky) the girl rolled over and fell again onto the floor. Groaning as she moved a little, she realized that she was fully exposed and that, perhaps her cover might be blown. As she turned to face the others in the room, clutched between her fingers was the object that came crashing through the vent system only moments before. "He-hello, hi. How goes it?"
