Cat Meets Dog! An Epic Team Up For An Epic Hunt!

The sounds of seagulls and waves crashing against the sounds of the red rock that made the redline were the ambience of this scene, whilst they were in the distance they could still be heard. It was a true testament to how nature could be truly powerful, dangerous and yet majestic and beautiful at the same time. Not to far away from the magnificent redline and Reverse mountain entrance where water seemed to defy physics was a collection of ships; all pressed together, anchored, and moored together at a safe enough distance away was a rather sizable flotilla of ships. In the centre was a rather large grandiose ship, it dwarfed all of the others by at least two to three times. The sails that were on it had one symbol, a giant purple star with “Sparkles!” emblazon beneath it. This Large cruise ship sized boat had a massive open top with a stage in the centre. It’s colouring was disgustingly bright and flashy, pinks, purples and pale blues all over made sure it was easy to spot, especially in the daylight when the sun seemed to gleam off of the spotless paint.

All the boats around it were ferries or small cruise ships that carried passengers for a few days at most, small ships that housed at most 20 people and a multitude of other classes of ships in all shapes and sizes. This Floatila was here for one reason and one reason only. Sparkles Evershine… or at least someone who was pretending to be her. This concert was set to be her biggest in all of the south blue, it was set to be her send of concert… the one that sent her off into the grand line where she would get the rest of the world.

The real Sparkles Evershine was stood on a small ferry, at the edge of this floating concert city. Her punk hood was up to cover her wolf ears, her hoody was zipped to hide her body and was zipped up far enough so she could hide her face behind the collar. The short skirt she was wearing was hiding her long fluffy tail, wrapped around her waist and slightly covered by the hoody for extra effect. Attached to her waist was a katana, sheathed in a purple scabbard, on her back a simple black backpack filled with supplies and a change of clothes or two. Her mismatch eyes were peering out of the shade that the hood gave her, over the smaller ships, the bigger ships and all the walkways and bridges that made up this flotilla. “Sparkles City” As some were dubbing it on the boat ride there.

“Concert isn’t until midnight and there are so many people here already? Jeez if I had this idea I wouldn’t need to hunt!” The bounty hunter grunted as she stepped off of the ship she was on and into the rest of the city. As she walked, she could smell the food of restraint ships, the alcohol of bars that had stuffed all of their stock on to a boat and came out to make some money and most of all she could feel the excitement of everyone. If floating cities like this were more viable, they would be all over the world. What a shame that they were so susceptible to the weather and supplies would be harder to get.

As she got on to a quiet ship advertising rooms for the night the young half mink would duck into it and sigh as she dinged the bell for reception. She needed somewhere quiet as a base of operations, at least until the concert. In the shaded room, the girl kept her glowing aura as dull as possible so she would not be spotted and have her cover blown. As she waited on the receptionist she would pull out a little purse that was in the shape of a fluffy golden retriever puppy and unzipped it so she could pay for a room.

“Hello Hello! How may help you? Do you need a room to crash in until the concert little girl?” With that statement Kit would narrow her eyes for a second and offer a low and quiet growl for a seconds before she nodded and started to cound money in her purse. “Ahh ok ok a silent type saving your voice for tonight too I guess? That’s 30,000 beri.” The older man said, his hands rubbing together and a pair of money signs in his eyes.

Stopping what she was doing the young woman sighed and pulled the full wad of notes out, counted 5 separate ones out and then placed the rest on the table. As she placed it into her purse and placed it into her pocket the man picked the stack up and counted the money before sliding a key to her. “You got Room 24 Go down the stairs twice and it is at the end of the hall on the left. It’s not the bottom deck but it can get a wet sometimes.” He said with a chuckle before putting the money in his pocket at letting the little woman go,

In a swift motion Sparkles Picked the key up and headed down the stairs as directed. When she got to the room she saw it, not too spacious but it was enough for her and one of her collaborators to prepare for tonight. The head was against the hull with a desk and a chair to the wall to the right with a basic bathroom next to the entrance, with a shower a sink and a toilet.

With a small shake of her head later Kit would lock the door behind her and move to sit on the bed, pulling a DenDen Mushi out of her bag after putting it next to her. “Time to see if they pulled through for once.” Uttered the half mink, as she used one hand to pull her hood down and the other to ring a number. “This is ShowDog this is ShowDog… Did Homebase finally get me some help? Did they actually get a hold of you BobCat?” She asked in a clear and cold voice, trying to be as official as possible at this stage.

“I hate these code names.” She uttered, forgetting that the snail phone was live and transmitting.

Click-Clack! The sound of metal and plastic shifting snuffed out by the general energies of the environment, a certain cybernetic siren lounged lazily upon the mast of just one of many a ship that made up the flotilla. Maritime amalgamations such as these were becoming increasingly more prevalent in the last year or so, but while many a newcomer to the Grand Line might have seen it as thoroughly fascinating, Soredama Kujaku did not share in their intrigue and wonderment. Cool and collected as ever, the dark-haired demoiselle was not exactly short of experiences with such things as floating cities. The locale known as ‘Vineyard’ had been her place of board for what seemed like a lifetime and, if only in thematic, this floating fabrication reminded her of it.

^{Chik… Chik… Chik… Chik… Chik… Chik… Clack-Click!}

This place isn’t so bad, she thought as she cycled through various armaments. One after another, the feline femme slipped bullet after bullet into the chambers of her revolvers, repeating the process with the kind of elegance and swiftness that came about after years of practice. Some might have said she was more familiar with the ‘Gang of Four’ than she was with her own body – and that was probably not too far from the truth. Firearms were a focus of this woman’s lifestyle, her talent in youth developed into a skill that far surpassed the average sniper.

Fully loaded and ready to go! Now, just to wait for this call… Not exactly in an energetic mood at present, Miss Soredama holstered the last of her curious quartet at her hip and rolled over, stretching herself and yawning silently. Peacock eyes settled somewhat lethargically upon the animal that rested itself within arms’ reach, the Transponder Snail that was tasked with an important duty. Issued by her client solely for the sake of the mission at hand, the oddly flamboyant mollusc snoozed in the sunlight, perhaps dreaming of the wide pastures in which his unbridled kin roamed free.

“‘Sprinkles Nevershone’ is it? Not exactly the most intimidating name,” Jack mused monotonously. Her mind raced through the details surrounding her current job. Though her true client’s identity was mostly a mystery to her, she had little worry in regards to what had been said. Somehow, she severely doubted that he was going to turn out to be a threat to her freedom, though some air of caution remained all the same. All the same, he had openly stated that he was little more than a middle-man in the whole ordeal and that the true client would soon be in contact with her. That was the deal. That was why the snail, now with one eye open, sat nearby. That was why – against all odds – the ‘Stray Bullet’ was back in business.

“This is Show-Dog. This is Show-Dog. Did Homebase finally get me some help? Did they actually get a hold of you, Bobcat?” asked the voice on the other end of the line, spoken in partial whispers. The mercenary raised her brow, cracking the subtlest of smiles as the light tones reached her ears. Though she was not exactly startled by the prospect, she was pleasantly surprised by the sound of a woman’s voice emerging from the snail’s lips. The ratio of female to male clients was oft heavily swayed in favour of the latter and, whilst the former did show up from time to time, their job offers were quite often rather convoluted. Selfishness was one thing – paradoxical would be the day where she received a job that did not in some way benefit the client and their interested parties – but complexity was another.

^{“…I hate these code names.”}

“You’re not the only one, darlin’,” Kujaku quipped. Her own voice rather deep and lacking in any hard intonation, the ambiguity of her identity would likely remain prevalent until an actual in-the-flesh encounter took place. Even then, she was not exactly the most feminine of figures, possessing a subtly squared jawline that gave her keen facial features something of an androgynous aura. Many had made the mistake in the past – some would never do so again. It often took a maternal individual, or at the very least somebody with a good eye to be able to make an accurate distinction at a glance. For now, this meeting of cat and dog would remain a vocal one.

^{“So… What’s the plan?” the gunslinger asked:
“I’ve been waiting for a job like this.”}

I just hope it’s worth a shot… Keeping her qualms to herself, she pulled a can from her belt and popped the seal. A brief hiss filled the air before she put the container to her lips and took a sip, savouring the cool freshness of a blackcurrant soda upon her tongue. Upon her head, two tufts of dark hair twitched in the sea air. The anticipation was growing – maybe it would even be worth drawing her blade to meet this challenge…?

“You’re not the only one, darlin’,” A deeper voice stated… it was deeper but the singer could hear that it was feminine. Sparkles is a vocal specialist after all. A little squeak later and the glowing aura of Sparkles Evershine shifted from a dull shine to a surprised pink. This was not the way Sparkles normally worked, she normally went solo, hunted on her own and won using all out force… but this was a target that she tried that on and had already failed.

“Plan? Not over the snails… Come to the western point of the ‘city’ I am in a hotel boat called and I am not pulling your leg here. ‘The sleeping Seaking’… It’s a rundown floating shed!” She said raising her voice, letting her fluid and girlish tone loose, even in anger she still sounded clear, perfect… as if she was an idol. As she let out a soft sigh, the young half mink would fall back to her bed and look out of the small porthole, all she could see was the hull of another ship, a much nicer and probably more expensive one too. “This room cost me 30,000 Beri so we better get some use out of it before we hit the target.” The singer huffed before closing her eyes, already annoyed by everything about this job… the fact that she had to deal with Sprinkles… Estell Grengel a woman so tricky she has foxed grand line pirates out of their dough.

“Say, whilst you are on the line… what’s the one regret you have you know that you could have avoided?” She asked, not knowing if the mysterious voice on the other end of the snail phone was already walking to her or not… though this could have been a welcome distraction for her, knowing your partner in a tough fight always had benefits Tanner said. “For me? I would have to say it’s letting a petty criminal go because I was feeling generous… She then idolised me… took my name and got big… like Sparkles Evershine big.” As she explained about all of this, the young half mink would unzip her tracksuit top to show her barely covered body below it to let some air in.

“She kidnapped, lied, and grew a small empire off of my name, got tricky and every time I tried to fix the problem I caused… everything just got worse.” Sparkles was telling her new partner the back story of the target without giving names, only subtle clue… astute bounty hunters should be able to catch on… it was also a way for her to get the issue off of her chest. The heat of the room was starting to get to the wolfwoman; a bead of sweat was running down her forehead as she started to look at her belongings. “So now I sit here and I’m thinking how do I catch a tricky copycat and her equally annoying friend?”

As she lifted small battle of shampoo from her bag it would slip from her hand and crash against the floor with a loud bang making the half mink nearly jump from her skin and yelp “Eeeeep!! Damn it! There’s shampoo all over!” She shouted in annoyance, this explosion covering mostly the floor and a bit of the bedpost would have to be cleaned up in case the ship’s owner charged her even more. As she jumped up the idol would look at the snail and laugh to herself. “Sorry, we’ll carry this on when you get here, I’m in room 24.”

“Glachank” The snail murmured as the receiver was placed onto the snail shell base. Sparkles did not know how long she had until this ally arrived, and she had to clean the shampoo off of the floor and make the base of operations good for use.

At least she’s got a good head on her shoulders, Soredama Kujaku thought. On the other end of the snail, the mysterious and enigmatic ‘Show-Dog’ seemed in the know when it came to keeping operations under wraps. How many a job had been ruined by a single careless remark over an otherwise insecure line? Probably far too many, but that was what separated the mousers from the mice in this crazy game of feline and rodent. Though still some sceptical of what could possibly transpire, the gunner gal seemed to perk up slightly, her interest drawn in tighter by an invisible yet powerful lure. Like a Tom to his catnip, temptation was steadily starting to outweigh caution.

^{“Say, whilst you’re on the line,” Show-Dog enquired:
“What’s the one regret you have…?”}

Well, that’s a first… For a while, at least… Curiosity further piqued by her partner’s question, Jack could only compare such quandaries to those presented by a former colleague. There was a man who would work subtle magic with every individual, regardless of status and affiliation, and form an intricate network of powerful ties that had borne great fruit in times of famine. One soul’s work on the social side of things had made an already formidable group even more so, though never was she quite sure just how deep those proverbial roots ran. Even so – and she knew this as well – knowing was half of the battle.

Apparently not in much of a hurry, Miss Soredama remained where she was. Lounging upon the length of timber, the Den Den Mushi chuntering away as if telling a rather deep yet ambiguous life’s story, she allowed her thoughts time to come to the boil. To act hastily was to act rashly and, while something as simple as a meeting might not have seemed all too threatening, Jack was just not the type to rush ahead. Taking another sip of juice, remaining rather cool and complacent about the hidden emotions within Show-Dog’s speech, she merely waited it out.

^{“I’m in Room 24.”}

^{“My one regret,” she finally spoke up, albeit cryptically:
“Was not being able to prevent something I regret from happening.”}

Gatcha… The Transponder Snail falling into slumber, it seemed the time was now to start moving. Leaving her soon-to-be-company with a rather profound and distanced message to consider, Kujaku wasted little more time in moving towards her destination. Simply allowing herself to roll off of the mast, she plunged into free-fall over the network of interconnected vessels, dark hair fluttering quietly as the air pushed against her façade. Through unseen processes, a pair of spring-loaded mechanisms broke free of her calves in the midst of her fall, the process hidden by her twisting body.

They’re not the most observant lot, are they? Mysterious mechanisms absorbing the impact of her fall before being recoiled into her ‘boots’, the descending damsel seemed to come out of the entire event unscathed and unfazed. Such acts of acrobatics were unusually commonplace in her life, so ingrained into her style of living that falling from such heights did little to stimulate her senses. The rush of the wind upon her face was nice, admittedly, and one’s body could never really generate immunity to the sensation of a rapid descent. But, all in all, a drop of such scale was no longer as frightening as it had been when she had first partaken of such experiences.

Sure enough, not a soul had noticed as she casually waltzed from the makeshift alley into which she had fallen. Everybody present upon the conjoined flotilla seemed more than willing to go about their business without ever looking up and, though she silently criticised them for being so naïve, she was also grateful that that was the case. Her weapons loaded and holstered, few seemed to mind the presence of such variable armament; it was only when you brandished such things as swords and guns than people cared about them, such was the way of the world in the wake of the Golden Age of Piracy.

“I guess what Simon says really does have to be,” the Stray Bullet mused as she approached her destination. The Sleeping Sea King was your typical shady ‘Floatel’, adorned with tacky woodwork and in dire need of a little aesthetic renaissance. It was nothing short of the oldest vessel among the flotilla, but somehow it seemed to have a decent turnaround all the same. There was something about the appeal of these rustic – in other words shoddy displays of business that attracted the senior masses, but that was just one half of the patronage. The other, well known to her and previous company, was those who liked to keep to the shadows. If it was not rich and flamboyant, then it was always the dark and dingy places where the more untoward side of business took place. Then again, Simon would have known that all too well.

“Hello. Hello! How can I help you?” asked the innkeeper.

^{“Where’s Room 24?”}

^{“That room’s taken, but there’s another room–”}

Her already rather blank expression not showing the slightest bit of change as she knocked back a few more drops of her juice, the hotelier gave her an unusual look before sighing. With a jab of his thumb, he gestured towards the staircase, but not before analysing her frame. Admittedly, the black and white cat suit she wore – its protective padding included – kept well-hidden the secrets of her sex, but it seemed the man was more intrigued by her arsenal of weapons than what might have lurked beneath the layers. Giving an unassuming shrug, he spoke up: “Down twice, and it’s on the far end of the hall, on your left. You can’t miss it.”

The cleaning of the shampoo was not hard, all the half mink really had to do was rush to the bathroom and grab a spare towel, dampen it and run back to wipe it away before any rea damage was made. It was good that the decking of the floor was wood otherwise; this would have been a completely different story. It has been a while since she had to clean up after her own screw-ups, not since she first started hunting with Tanner. “Back to basics, huh?” The short lass said before sitting back on the bed, her tail free from her waist and her ears all perked up. As she moved back to going through her stuff Sparkles would be careful not to drop it on the floor. The shampoo bottle whist now significantly more empty it still had something in it, enough for this short trip at least.

As she pulled out her brush she would place it down on top of a spare change of clothes, if her last fight taught her anything it was even she could have her clothes shredded up. Beside that was a pair of Tone Dials, both collections of her music… useful for intimidation tactics in a fight. Te sword attached to her hip was leaned up against the desk and a pair of handcuffs were placed next to the rest of her toiletries.

“Alright… I might need to hit up the shop… this isn’t enough for Estell… for Sprinkles.” Sparkles said before getting up and heading to the door, to make sure it had a decent and working lock on it. As she gently shook it the door would make a rattling sound as the hinges squeaked. “Yeah that makes a rattle… No one is surprising me.” She muttered before turning away to put the now shampoo covered towel into the shower with a wet slap.

Then there was a knock on the door… was it the backup already? Was it bobcat? They were quick, getting here faster than the half mink thought she would… either that or she was only a few ships away. Eitherway the bounty hunter had to rush out of the bathroom and close the door with a slight slam. Slowly she unlocked the door and poked the top of her head out with her ear flat. “Bobcat?” She asked with a minor tilt to her head, her inquisitive green and red eyes peering out at the long slender woman. Were they wearing a cat suit? Either they took this codename to heart or it was given to them for reasons similar to Sparkles…

Stepping back Kit Kathrines would let the door squeak open and would gesture for the woman to come in. “This is home base… 30,000 well spent.” She said with sarcasm before closing and locking the door behind herself. Even if this was not bobcat, Sparkles could handle threats in a small space like this. As she got to the bed and not hiding her extra oddities that she boasted Sparkles would sit on the bed and let her tail wag freely.

“That sparkles is a fake. She is the Copy Cat Estell Grengel. A petty crook I let go when I started and she became this… the one who has kidnapped and sold so many people into slavery… Bold enough to claim the ransom for a captain’s daughter and then still sell her to slavers.” Sparkles explained harshly, criticising herself more for her own screw-ups in life. “I’m Sparkles… The real one.” She followed up be putting her hand out there, the glow she was shedding a dark red as she let herself get caught up in the past.

“Suppose we should know what each other can do before we form a good plan eh?” The wolf girl shifted and let her hand that was now free from the shake shifted, changed, and started to glow with a glowing hot look. The shifting plasma looked just as alive as Sparkles was, it looked independent but still in the half minks control. The pure heat from the plasma made the room uncomfortable in moments and nearly unbearable in seconds, with a quick shift the hand returned to normal and Sparkles smiled. “I ate the plasma logia… I am literally a star girl.”

“This is home base – thirty thousand well spent,” were the first words that emanated from the unusual girl’s mouth. Soredama Kujaku simply took another sip of her juice, seemingly disinterested in such a mundane fact as the room’s fare. Through eyes of peacock plume, she had already analysed enough to make criticisms and compliments, but the words just never came. It was not unlike her to keep her opinions to herself unless spoken to, but perhaps her lazy silence spoke volumes? Regardless, she entered the room with nonchalance in her step, allowing the door to be closed behind her. Any other mercenary might have considered this act a risky one, especially without clear knowledge of who the person was. But, alas, this was not ‘any other mercenary’ – this was ‘Spring-Heel’ herself.

“That Sparkles is a fake. She is the copycat, Estell Grengel – a petty crook I let go when I started,” the wolf-tailed woman explained, having sat herself upon the hotel bed. Not really one for conventional seating arrangements, Jack perched herself upon the corner of the dressing table, sitting with her legs somewhat apart in an anything but feminine poise. It might have been questionable, but it was comfortable all the same. Throughout the explanation, she remained silent, sipping juice until her curious client displayed her power.

^{“I ate the Plasma Logia,” Sparkles announced:
“I am literally a Star Girl.”}

Perhaps it was the heat generated by such a display of power, but the ear-like tufts of black that protruded from atop Miss Soredama’s head twitched and curled slightly in protest. Without much in the way of exterior surprise shown, the shooter placed a now rather warm can of juice upon the dresser.

“You’ve got some learning to do, darlin’,” the dark-haired demoiselle said coolly. Despite the stifling warmth that had overtaken the room – enough to dry up what she had assumed was the spilled shampoo from their previous conversation – she did not seem all that bothered. Sharing a room with a Devil Fruit user was not exactly the most comfortable of things to do, let alone a Logia user who possessed what might have been one of the most unstable elemental affinities of all. Even so, she showed nothing in the way of concern as she pointed an index finger rather lazily in Miss Evershine’s direction.

^{“Just because you ate a Logia Devil Fruit doesn’t make you invincible. When you let me in, you didn’t even question who I was. You even turned your back to me when you went to sit down – even if just briefly. That was more than enough time for me to have killed you, and even a Logia couldn’t have reacted that fast…”}

Jack brushed her fringe aside, the jade highlights in her hair glinting like cats’ eyes.

“Maybe I’m underestimating you. But, here on the Grand Line, rookie mistakes mean the difference between a successful job and sleeping with the Sea Kings,” she tacked on. Her cool monotony seemed almost sarcastic, especially given the unintentional nod to the name of their current abode. In reality, she was just offering advice based on her own experiences and garnered knowledge, hoping that the stereotypical cockiness of the Logia would soon be ridden from Sparkles’ naïve mind: “I’m ‘Bobcat’. Most people I know just call me ‘Jack’.”

Demonstrating an almost unnerving speed, the Stray Bullet plucked free one of the revolvers from its holster at her hip, baring its monochromic metal for her client to see. Such armaments were already considered unusual, but semi-automatic and fully automatic weapons were gradually becoming a somewhat more prevalent thing. Though expensive and in some cases inefficient, pioneered technologies were progressively improving the market – both for and against them. Having obtained four of such items the likes of which she called ‘Yoningumi’ (the Gang of Four), the mysterious mercenary soon demonstrated her level of expertise.

^{“I’m a gunner,” Kujaku explained:
“I’m not too shabby with a sword, either.”}

Effortlessly spinning the admittedly weighty six-shooter about her fingers, flipping it about with an ease and grace that only served to emphasise her previous point, the markswoman gestured with her free hand to the weapon sheathed at her back. Its exact design hidden beneath holster and behind her back, Raika’s identity – not to mention its capabilities – was kept a close secret. Typically, she did not expect to have to rely upon its steel during this job; a weapon which she only really drew for those who proved themselves capable combatants – challengers against whom she enjoyed to go toe to toe with. Her sense of scale perhaps dulled by the difficulties of the New World, though she had become rusted by her lessened activities, the lethargic lady certainly did not feel like anybody was about to live up to her standards at any point in the near future…

This ‘Jack’ came out of the gate fast and hard criticising the half mink for her decisions and actions with the last few moments. She did not even know Sparkles and she was spouting things about how she could have been killed already, how she could be sleeping with the sea-kings… making a pun out of the boat that they were currently on. Sparkles did not really know what to think of her, she seemed mean, cold and like she is done with all of this.

It was as she moved on to show her weapons and skills, she was certainly skilled in twirling a gun around, making herself look cool, but could she shoot it? This was a question that Sparkles could not get an answer too now, or until the fight really. As the sword was mentioned the logia user would let her own eyes glance over to her own bladed weapon, a simple Katina that she was given by her mentor and boss, it had seen it’s own fair share of fights before Sparkles had gotten her hands on it.

As Jack finished her explanations Sparkles would turn her head to look out of the porthole to the ship that was a little way across the salty deep. Her left ear falling flat as she considered things for a second, then it rose again to be on end like her other one, the purple fur dull in the lower light of the cabin they were in, this was however offset by the glow she was emitting, a pale white aura was radiating from the idols body. “You smell of metal, you reek of it and gun powder, I opened the door and that was the first thing I smelt… anyone who deals with Sprinkles… Estell smells like S#!t, they reek of it. She just has this aroma I know so much and it is the one thing she can’t change about herself.” Sparkles commented before looking the gunner straight in the eyes, her multi-coloured ones lacking the spark they had until a few moments ago.

“Yes, I am a logia user and I may still be able to be surprised. However, based off of what Mother base told me and the fact you smell as you do I deemed you safe and somewhat trustworthy. I could of just burned this boat down the second you opened the door. Besides I would be able to hear you cock the hammer on your guns, these ears aren’t fake I am a half mink.“ The young woman explained as they twitched at the mention, her fluffy tail shifting and curling around her body to rest on her lap. The air around the pair shifted, from Sparkles warm and excitable to something not quite as worm and energised, almost electric.

With a long drawn out sigh Sparkles would pull a small leaflet out of her bag and place it on the bed closer to jack “The concert is scheduled for midnight tonight. Sprinkles M.O Is appear onstage, and spring a cage trap, spraying a sleeping gas into the crowd…. When they wake up they are in chains and halfway to an auction house. Before the gig she will not show her face, after she is too hard to snag, way too much security for us.” Sparkles said with a long sigh not liking the plan that she has come up with.

“My plan is dangerous, reckless but is the only one I see working. She will not risk her merchandise… we have to hit her as she makes her appearance, hard and fast… with the panic that causes they will either be forced to act or too distracted with us to act. After that we shut her and her friend down or we draw the fight out and let the civilians get away so we can go all out.” Looking away knowing that some negative feedback was about to come her way the idol was braced for the impact that was about to happen.

“I’ve tried countless times and this is the only way I can foresee us actually getting results, she doesn’t expect you and doesn’t think I have the guts to do it during the capture.“ Sparkles tacked onto the end, letting her mismatched eyes close to further brace herself from any shouting or criticising.

“You smell of metal… and gunpowder,” Sparkles Evershine stated. Some might have considered that an insult, but Soredama Kujaku had heard and been on the receiving end of far worse – the kind of people she had dealt with in the past knew exactly what to say and how to say it. This one, the half-blooded Mink, was not using her words in an aggressive way – Not at all. These were matters of fact and, apparently, so too were the words she spouted in regards to Estell. If it had not been made obvious prior, this was more than just a normal job. Defeating ‘Sprinkles’ was a duty burned into the very soul of the woman that sat on the bedside.

Jack halted her gun twirling display, holding the weapon rather precariously by the trigger before flipping it again and stowing it within its holster. Though not impressed in the least bit, she did at least find some sense of solace in the fact that Miss Evershine knew how firearms worked.

A pamphlet was placed on the bed:
“She will not risk her merchandise…”}

“You want to make a big deal of it, do you, darlin’? Most of us don’t care for making a scene – and when we do we’re not the ones on stage,” the Stray Bullet stated, remaining oddly cool about it. The mercenary life was one of hardships and covert operations. If somebody knew your face, it became harder to do you work; if somebody knew your favoured modus operandi, then that also made your work harder to do. The game was strategy on a subliminal level – tactical decisions and information gathering of minor details that even grand strategists of the world’s largest armies would overlook. To be brief, she did not like the idea of making her presence known to anybody but her designated quarry. For a moment, her eyes seemed to fade, replaying scenes of past works.

^{“Do we know who her ‘friend’ is…?”}

Her interest ever so slightly piqued, the dark tufts – reminiscent of cat ears – upon her head twitched in unison. The more she knew of what she was dealing with, the better equipped she would be to do so. That had always been Travis’ advice; to know one’s enemy’s capabilities is to know your own in that final moment. Various words of wisdom from her ‘olden days’ seemed to flit in and out of her conscience like schooling sardines, the feeding frenzy of thought dining erratically upon every presented piece.

“Also, where’s the concert taking place, exactly?” Posing her queries without even giving so much as a second glance at the skill bedridden leaflet, the gunner girl took up the can of juice at her side once again and moved to take a sip of it. Upon the contents gracing her tongue, she grimaced slightly, breaking the forever disinterested expression for the briefest of moments. The juice was warm – the influence of Sparkles’ Hoshi Hoshi no Mi had seen to that, even if it had not been the Ability User’s intent: “I think I’ll pick up some juice on the way…”

A pair of questions were asked, with not enough time in between them for the half mink to answer them. It was good, far better than the snide remarks and put downs she was expecting. This was a first, she had made a plan for mor than herself and it seemed like the partner was at least giving it thought before. With a quick moments silence Jack made her comment about juice and Sparkles let out a small giggle.

“Alright… Lemme draw a map.” The wolf eared girl said as she hopped off of the bed, grabbing a pen and some paper from her bag as she did. It was a good thing she had packed at least something to write plans and notes down on. The paper, which was already slightly crumpled was brought over to the desk and placed down as flat as possible so the Idol could get to work drawing away. With her tongue, poking out of her mouth slightly as she worked Sparkles would smile, enjoying this a bit more than she thought she would.

“I don’t have too much info on her friend… she calls him Spike, he is a sniper and uses a rifle.” She said whilst drawing, making squiggles be the ocean beneath them and little squares be the boats that they were on. “He is new, I only caught a glimpse of him last time we met and he doesn’t have a bounty… or one I know of. I do know that he is a killer shot, could have killed me if it wasn’t for the glinting light in his scope.” She said, stopping her drawing to shudder slightly at the thought of nearly dying again.

“Done!” She announced with a wagging tail swaying from side to side. Moving away and pulling the map up to show Jack Sparkles would grin proudly as she pointed at the large square and the line pointing to the reverse mountain. “That ship, the galleon is the concert arena…. It’s more than big enough for everyone here to stand on. I feel that it will plough through the small boats in its way and head for the grand line to escape.” The image in itself was basic, but everything looked about right geographically for the ships, she had even marked where they currently were.

After letting this information sink in the half mink turned to face the door, pulling her hood up over her ears and tucking her tail back under her skirt around her waist. She was ready to walk out so they could recognise the half-mink idol… it would be the worst thing to happen at this stage. “Shall we go and look for vantage points and juice?” She asked, spinning on her heel to look at the taller gun woman, beaming a smile and letting a happy yellow aura light the room.

“We may be able to spot Spike doing the same...” She muttered before opening the door and allowing jack to take the lead so she could lock the door and follow after. Ready for whatever was about to happen. She has even left her sword behind knowing that Its distinctive pink sheath and handle would give her away In some regards. “Sorry about your last juice… the heat I can’t really control.” She said, calming herself down and dulling the light that she sheds

‘Spike’, huh…? Now Soredama Kujaku’s interest had been further freshened. The idea of a fellow gunman on the scene – one of supposedly great talent – was enough to make the mercenary want to test this man’s skills. Though rifles were anything but her preference when it came to firearms, she could not say that she did not have experience in handling them. Weapons of such calibre had too much kick, making them unwieldy despite their heightened penetrating power, range and accuracy. It was the ‘average’ sniper’s weapon, and a tool praised for its efficiency. Pistols and revolves might have paled in comparison, but Spring-Heel had arguably reached a point where the type of weapon mattered far less than the type of wielder.

^{“Done!” Miss Evershine wagged her tail:
“That ship, the galleon, is the concert area…”}

^“Hm?”

“I feel that it will plough through the small boats in its way,” the Mink-blood maiden said, addressing her concerns. True it was that the size and scale of that single ship far surpassed that of the many other vessels that comprised the flotilla. The ship was even too large to pass through the channels of Reverse Mountain, so it must have crossed the Calm Belt instead. A risky venture, but it had survived the test, probably by sticking close to the great continent that split the world in two. That was the only way vessels of such calibre could make it into the Grand Line, forcing crews of such craft to contend against the threat of Sea Kings. Fortunately, to have a ship of such size often indicated wealth, experience and power – or at least some combination of them.

Jack eyed the paper. It did not take long for her to pinpoint her own location upon the rudimentary diagram, discerning the sizable distance between the Sleeping Sea King and their target destination. In terms of scale, Sparkles’ artwork lacked precision, but at least she had accurately noted the relative positions of each and every component ship.

“Shall we go and look for vantage points and juice?” the prissy popstar quizzed, preparing to make her exit. The Stray Bullet nodded, abandoning her seat and taking her leave as the Half-Mink locked up in their wake. The apology was dismissed with a slight wave of nonchalance – there was no use crying over spilt milk. Or, in this case, warm juice. The pair was running on a strict schedule, knowing that there was a deadline fast approaching. How that affected the Star Girl was unknown, but Miss Soredama simply took it in her stride. Usually jobs of this level could take days, weeks even, of planning and stakeouts before a real move could be made. It was refreshing to have a fast-approaching moment of action – even more refreshing than cold juice.

“Snipers prefer the high ground,” Kujaku quipped as they left the hotel behind. “If this ‘Spike’ is anything like your traditional rifleman, chances are he’s already set himself up a nest or two aboard that galleon. Firing from aboard a ship isn’t easy, either. Under normal conditions, a long-range sniper has to compensate for wind speed and direction and angle of fire. Aim too low and you give your position away immediately; while direct shots that might seem dead on can miss completely. The longer the distance, the more you have to compensate.”

Heeled boots waltzed across the sturdy gangplank connecting the Sleeping Sea King to its neighbouring commercial sloop. Peacock eyes never gave the performing pup a second glance, scanning the masts and rigging above for signs of modifications. The best place for a sniper typically had cover against both wandering eyes and weather patterns alike. So far, nothing noticeable caught her attention.

Do I really need to explain all this…? Questioning her own decisions on elaborating, the feline femme’s pace slowed a little. This flotilla seemed rather simplistic in layout when you were walking about the various decks, but the upper reaches were far more labyrinthine. Between rigging and sail, the number of possible avenues one could take to move was nigh infinite. Finding a person amongst the yardarms and crossbeams was the easy part – pursuing them was where the difficulty would lie…

The light explanation of how a sniper chooses their position was more than enough for Sparkles to figure out what positions this “Spike“ may take during the operation. The operation that the half mink was certain was a trap set just for her, having a concert on such a scale was something that Sprinkle’s had never done before, hell it was something the real Idol was branching into just recently. Out of all possible positions that the sniper could take Kit could only see one that was unusual enough to be extremely noteworthy. On the edge of the redline, near the entrance to reverse mountain, there was a small shack, it was a fair enough distance away but it had an amazing angle on the large ship and had the wind in it’s favour.

During the rest of the walking around the young wolf woman would grab some juice for jack and hand it to the gunner, an apology for ruining her last drink as she showed off her power. “So I think we can assume Spikes’ firing position… Estelle will be on the stage and will have goons all over. Probably a few back up traps if I escape the others, like I normally do.” The half mink explained as she leads the woman who smelt of oil and gun powder through the maze of hastily bound together ships. The crossing pathways of gangplanks, pieces of wood and ships trying to fence off a pathway to stop themselves being trodden on.

Her ears were flat and covered by a hood, her tail was wrapped around her stomach and covered by the same coat that was hiding her ears, it was not comfortable. The looking away and hiding her face and eyes from everyone around her was starting to get on her nerves as-well. If she were to be spotted here then the whole operation was in jeopardy. It would give her position away, it would ruin the mission. However, the half breed was already certain that Estelle Grengel had planned for the real Sparkles Evershine would come to interrupt this mass kidnapping.

“So? Are we clear on the plan? Flood in with the crowd, stay near the edges and as she springs the trap rush her and her men… Simple, but we have to keep our eye out on the predetermined sniping positions.” Kit noted as the pair joined a large queue of people waiting to get onto the ship that the concert was being held on. A ship so big that it could house everyone on this flotilla, it was impressive that the sneak could get her hands on a vessel that big… then again if you say you are an idol known across the world in some form or another discounts tend to flow your way… that was something Sparkles had learned not too long ago herself.

It was as they moved from one boat to another across one of the more rotted looking gangplanks did Sparkles think… she didn’t know anything about her partner, just that she smelled of gunpowder, metal and was a good shot… They had time, the concert was not going to be for at least an hour, and this line was moving at a slow pace. She may as well ask now… she knew everything about her own motley crew of bounty hunters, knowing who you are fighting with is just as important as knowing your enemy. “Soooo~… Where were you born?” The half mink started as she turned to look at the woman who was beside her. “Me? Some place on the grand line silver island. Doing this kinda stuff is a more recent development, I’ve only been going out on my own for a few months… maybe a year or so now.” The half mink said, turning her multi coloured eyes back down to the floor so people could not see them, this hiding who you are is tough… it really cooped the young woman up and got her more ansy than she should be.

“What got you into guns?” She asked, as a last question, fishing for something to make this situation less awkward.

Hmm, that’s going to be tricky. I can’t make a shot that far with a headwind coming off the Red Line, Soredama Kujaku assessed, taking note of Miss Evershine’s own observation. A small abode of sorts nestled amongst the fair crimson strata of the mountainous wall was an ideal refuge for a specialist in distance fighting. Arguably, even a skilled archer could make a precision shot from that distance; but firing from ship to shore was nigh impossible without heavy calibre at your disposal. That ruled out the possibility of an ‘easy’ return of fire.

“Huh… Thanks,” the gunslinger nodded.

^{“So…?” Kit asked:
“Are we clear on the plan?”}

“Mm, as crystal,” Jack replied, stowing the cool can of juice. Eyes of green seemed far more focused upon the upper reaches of the galleon than anything, picking out what one might have assumed to be vantage points. But, contrary to any norm, what she was seeking had no connection to her gunplay. Rather, she was making a mental note of places aboard the ship that she could use to bounce herself off – feats of which she was certain her partner was unaware. For all intents and purposes, the ship was little more than terrain across which she could spring and skip to the best of her ability. Mechanical legs could turn something as simple as a flattened board affixed to a crossbeam as a means of changing direction and achieving new heights.

There was but one issue.

I’m not sure I can make that jump… For a moment, the Stray Bullet’s eyes flicked between the farthest reaches of the main mast and the rocky outcrops that jutted from the Red Line’s towering façade. Even with the flotilla being anchored so close, it was an impressive distance to have to jump. Heck, even a trained Long-Leg probably could not make that without a good running start, and that was what the woman would struggle most with. She needed something else to bounce from – a piece of stone or flying timber – in order to clear such a substantial gap if she hoped to get to the sniper’s most likely nest.

“Where were you born?” Sparkles asked, breaking an awkward silence between them. “What got you into guns?”

“Aityaia, South Blue,” Miss Soredama replied calmly, but otherwise revealed no more about her origins. There were things she would rather have kept secret even from the mithering Mink-blood. This was business; no bonds needed to be forged – nothing deep enough to warrant an explanation of how she had reached the point she was at now. Sparkles did not seem to see that. Maybe she did and just rebuked the notion that business was business? Or, as was quickly becoming more obvious as the gunner girl finally looked to the hybrid, perhaps she was just looking for something to help stop the awkward feeling.

“I needed something to do when I was younger,” she added coolly: “Practicing at the shooting range was better than sitting around all day…”

Jack closed her eyes.

Crisp and clear were the memories of her time spent testing herself, over and over again until exhaustion, against the gun. Pointing and shooting was the easy part, but firearms were far more than just pulling a trigger and knowing how to reload. In slow motion she could see it – the day she had bested the local guild’s champion’s record. Each bullet fired one after the other with barely half a second between them, striking the moving targets dead centre. Six shots, six perfect hits, and that process had been repeated thrice over. She mused for a moment as to whether anybody in the South Blue had attempted to best that record.

The sounds of chatter filled the air as the many ships that were tied together in this makeshift island creaked and groaned with the waves of the south blue around them. This was an odd setting for the pair of bounty hunters, even odder when the fact they were there to attend a concert that is being held on this flotilla of ships, and the fact that they were in a line to get on the main galleon that was hosting the concert. Sparkles Evershine was stood there listening to the short answer that was given by her new cohort to a question about her origins.

The shortness of the answer threw her off a little bit, this gun toting lass that smelled of the black powder and oil was proven to be a lady of little words… but even that response in itself was light on the conversation and enlightening facts that one needs to get a good grip on ones partner. It was then that the hooded half mink would look to the taller woman and lock eyes with her as she was asked an important question. “You know… I didn’t really count the ones I have seen… but considering the size of this operation, the scope and the projected goal… a few dozen, maybe more?” The hiding little woman muttered as he let her eyes fall back down so they were lower, not letting anyone around get a good look at her famous face.

A second later, there was a lot of movement in the queue. The pair were moving forwards and towards the goal at hand. Infiltration of the concert area. The movement was slow, but at least it was not a standstill and the sun was just setting as Kit Kathrines and her bounty hunting buddy were at the front of the line.

“Tickets.” A burly bouncer stated as he held his hand out and looked down at the pair. The pink night sky was reflecting from his bald head in such a perfect manner that the glance Sparkles gave to the man as she drove her hand into her pocket made her think she was looking into some sort of living mirror man. Without a word the idol sensation would present the ticket that was for the pair of them for it to be taken and stamped.
“Here you go.” The man stated after a hole punch was brought to the slips of coloured paper and then a pair of neat holes was poked into the sheet.

“T-thanks.” The half mink stammered out in an altered voice, something that any respected voice talent could pull off with ease. The soft, yet confident voice was replaced by a high, gratey shy voice that would even make nails on a chalk board clutch at its ears to make the noise stop. It even annoyed the young woman who was performing the voice changing miracle, then again, her sensitive ears were very susceptible to high pitched noises. With this they were waved on past the man and up the gangplank to the awkwardly placed staircase that lead to the top deck of the ship.

The top deck was a sight to see, a stage had been setup towards the bow of the, it was heightened and had a giant white backdrop that looked like it could double as a sail. The center was a large area designed to be a gathering area where all the attendees could gather to watch and stare, around the outside of that was where a few guards were to stand to make sure there was no trouble and at the back was a fenced off area that lead to the top… for vips perhaps? Even if this was to capture all of these people to sell on as slaves, it was an impressive set up that may be handy for real on the sea performances later in her singing career.

“There is a faint smell of shit…” The small woman with a heightened sense of smell said as she looked around to her companion. “She was here recently… we should split up and stick near the edges, when shit goes south, we make our move and shut this down.” The woman whose name was synonymous with a chocolate bar treat said as the duo walked onto the attendee area.

All this planning and she didn’t take into account grunts…? Amateur… Well-versed in the tricks of her trade, Soredama Kujaku could not help but find such an oversight to be a severe lapse in judgment on her hirer’s part. All too well did she understand the threat even a poorly trained guard could pose if the situation turned in his favour, but it was far too late to worry about that. A headcount would have to be made on the fly. Not ideal, but nothing about this scenario was screaming such a thing. At least she would be in familiar territory. There was no better camouflage than a bustling crowd of bystanders.

“T– Thanks,” Sparkles chirped.

Changing her voice…? Not a bad trick to have… Duly noting the Star Woman’s vocal prowess, the Stray Bullet followed at an easy pace as the bouncer let them pass. Unfortunately, such a skill was not so easily developed without extensive training, so for the gunslinger to replicate such a technique was out of the question. Nonetheless, they were now aboard a vast and elaborate vessel whose upper reaches had been converted for the pirate performer’s ploy. The spacious spectator’s area was already quite busy with bodies milling about – excited teenagers, travellers and fanboys from all over seemed to have gathered in their naïveté.

But while the ship’s setup was clearly thought out, Miss Soredama was more concerned about other factors. A quick count of the number of visible goons – plus Chrome Cranium – put eleven enemies within her line of sight. Their target included, plus the sniper, brought that number up to thirteen. Some would call it unlucky, but she knew better than to let that number settle. There were always more enemies than you thought there were; a lesson she had learned the hard way.

For safety’s sake, she knocked the count up to twenty-one.

“We make our move and shut this down.”}

^{“Mm,” Jack nodded, “okay.”}

Splitting from her partner in anti-crime, the feline femme waltzed slowly, nonchalantly through the gathering masses. Excited squawks and murmurs abound filled the twilight air with an excitable atmosphere. It seemed almost tame compared to busier locales, but it was still quite different. Maybe it was the suspense that hung in the saline sky that made her feel far less enthused. Shooting between moving crowds was one thing, but she dared not threaten civilian lives if she could help it. If things turned sour, she needed to react quickly, and to that end her hands remained at her hips, ready to draw…

And with the crowd the pair dispersed, the night air nipping ever so slightly at the idol bounty hunters face and the small amount of her thighs that weren’t covered by shorts nor thigh high socks. The atmosphere around this top deck of the Galleon was building in that special kind of tension concerts got as the crowd gathered in anticipation of an amazing performance. Sparkles herself moved towards the front, towards the stage on the side furthest from the red line to keep herself hidden from the sniper that was most likely keeping over-watch on the entire event from that shack. The mingling mink still kept her hood up until the crowd around her was bustling, nearly touching in the small space near the stage. In a way, it was kind of claustrophobic, tight and busy…. Very much like the bedroom this now famous star was thrown into when she was naught but a pup. The cramped space that she was forced into both now and back in her past made her uncomfortable but at least she could remove her hood and look like many of the other women there. Women who were dolled up in makeup and costumes to look like their idol, and in this low light atmosphere it was the perfect disguise to not be disguised at all.

The chatter that was around made the wolfswoman slightly embarrassed and angry at the same time, almost breaking her concentration on hiding her natural star shine… the one thing that would give the mink away to the crowd, and thus the target. The only thing she could do was to punch Estelle really, really hard in the fight just for misleading all of these people with the Sparkles name.
“You know I heard this is going to be the last big concert here before she heads to the grand line to be mainstream like the Soulking!” One younger man shouted, sparking a lot of hushed chatter before a higher female voice replied “I heard she is going to go to every blue and do something like this there as a good luck tour!”

A wave of agreeance spread through the crowd and their mutterings grew into a mass of indistinguishable noises, this only seemed to grow as the final few members of the audience got onto the ship and in the designated audience area. This noise was so uncomfortable for the half mink and her sensitive animalistic ears that she would frown and hold a hand over her flicking wolf ears. This was the first time she was in a crowd dedicated to her and damn, it was noisy. With the ramblings rattling in her head Sparkles almost missed the first sighting of Estelle. A head with the same purple hair that the idol had poked out and was highlighted in red in different areas, she looked real close to how the real idol looked but those who have seen the ears up close could tell a mile away the fake ones clipped into the impostors hair were not anywhere near as close to a minks.

After a second the head popped back in and then there was a loud ominous booming, it happened 3 or so times before everyone shut up and a voice rang out over the entire flotilla. “Hello, hello! Welcome one and all to this! The final Sparkles Evershine concert ever!” The female voice boomed, it was not even close to what the idol usually used but it sparked a reaction from the bounty hunter in the crowd. Her aura caused by the devil fruit residing in her body flared up a bright and dazzling red as she slipped through the crowd to the edge. Sparkles was a beacon, lucky for her the light of the stage were a similar red and were shining down on the audience. “Don’t be alarmed, we are just setting the mood.” As that echoed around there was a click and on 3 of the four sides of the audience area a giant wall of metal bars rose up from the decks underneath only leaving the stage as an exit. The back portion of the ship where the ViPs were supposed to be was already empty, in the noise and tension the few people were up there had vanished.

The entire time that the real idol was making her way to the edge she was muttering and grumbling. “last concert my ass, I’ll show you not to drag me through the mud.” In different varieties, puffing her cheeks up, when the cage came up so did Sparkles, the cross bar at the top that kept the bars from wobbling was between her feet as it rose at a pace that caught her off guard, and gave her little to no. time to get out of the way. It hit her body and carried her up 20 feet into the air, sending a massive rush of pain through her body as her nether regions were smashed. It took all of her willpower but the pup did not let out a howl of pain, only a slight wimper as she got to her new vantage point.

It was then that Sprinkles emerged from behind the stage and looked over the crowd and then to the glowing beacon that was precariously placed on the trap that she had sprung. “Screw the plan! She just showed herself, I’m not even going to sing. Guards, seize Sparkles! Engineers put the rest to sleep!” The voice ordered through the den den speaker system. The confusion that covered the audience area was massive, what was going on? Was this a gag? Who was that on the stage if she was not Sparkles? So many questions and panic was spreading, people trying to run to the front, people trying to push out of the cage. The men outside of the cage all pulled on gas masks as they moved to run around the cage to get to where their target was.

The woman on stage pulled off her wig and ears to watch in comfort as the plan was put into motion without her having act the one she wanted out of the way had stumbled into a perfect position for what was about to happen… but she did not know about any company she had all of this as the front of the cage rose, trapping the innocents inside.
