“What are you all worked up about, Scarlette?” A firm tone sounded from him with his volume raised to put an end to all of the spewing concerns. He personally didn’t particularly care for whatever the reason a ghost might have. As long as they never see it again, then there would be no bother. This panicking woman was overreacting in his eyes. “Perhaps that boy simply cannot control his own powers properly. A power to slip through solids would certainly allow him to trespass our ship. He may have just used it as transportation. After all, Devil Fruit users cannot swim,” he gave a possible explanation to her. There still lacked any means to verify his hypothesis, and even the theorizer remained uncertain, especially with all of them being exactly what Tweiss labeled them as: newbies. Irksome as it was to him, acknowledging his own weaknesses remained important.
“More importantly, what’s the matter with you?” He raised an eyebrow. Ever since this phantom showed itself, it had been obvious just how strange she has been acting. Never before had this woman ever put this much thought into another person who just happened to be inhuman for the time being. His impression of her had always been one that didn’t value the lives of others, but the very definition of ‘lives’ could very well be different among them. “Wanting to know what a ghost wants is one thing, but that’s no reason to be all whiny and teary about it,” the boy stated his lack of understanding. It wasn’t so much what she said that bothered him; it was how she said it. The way she spoke, it was as if the world was coming to an end.
Come to think of it, this idiot believes in some of the most nonsensical philosophy I’ve ever heard. The conventional meaning of death is equivalent to life for her. She just believes in some imaginary world where the people she kills would go to. Oh, does she mean heaven and hell? Or rather, she views our current world as hell, and the people she slays goes to heaven. What nonsense. I shouldn’t even waste my mental energy to even try to reason with that kind of logic.
“You thought this island was boring, but I think there’s something weird going on that we can’t see,” Rebecca commented, coming to this very conclusion after hearing the story that the waitress had told them. The things around them had just recently recovered from a war. What if those deceased victims from that battle became ghosts that now roam the island? But, that couldn’t make any sense. Such a ghost couldn’t have stumbled upon their ship before they even reached the island, right? Nothing made sense anymore. Not even her brother’s animal senses were of any help. The whole Grand Line just seemed like one big bundle of confusion.
With both of the females confused and possible frightened, he of all people must keep his own emotions in check. Whatever spookiness comes their way must not drive his feelings into a corner. “Oh fine,” a sigh emitted out, “it seems the only way to solve this matter is to do some investigating. It doesn’t seem that either of you will sleep well tonight if we simply let things be as they are.”
The sister suddenly had a serious demeanor as her eyes locked onto her brother, “Pluto. He’s here.”
“Who?” The lack of specification left him puzzled until the girl’s pointer finger directed his vision towards the corner of the building above them.
Head tilted up. A ghastly phantom lurked over them, squatting on the roof with eyes peeking at them from a faraway distance.
“Tch… how long has he been there?” The boy grumbled. He wasn’t used to being spied on. Spying should have been his forte, but a ghost would certainly have an advantage over him. “Who the heck are you?” His tone sounded towards the young boy above. There lacked any sign of fear or hesitance in his expression. “What are you?” He added after a pause.
