The warm rays of the high noon sun on woke Queen B. Melosa up from her nap. With a smile, the young pirate captain opened her eyes. The one single cloud on the otherwise clear sky that had covered the sun moved on. Only a few seagull's circled over the coconut timber caravel.
What a wonderful day!
The pink-haired pirate stretched herself luxuriously as she decided whether or not she should get up. On one hand, she really could do with a little lunch. And she hadn't seen her crew yet today, perhaps she could make food for everyone. On the other hand this deck chair was pretty comfortable. And the meal would be horrible anyway, as she was an absolute disaster in the kitchen and they still hadn't found a chef yet. On top of that, moving in general still hurt a little. Yawning quietly, she stayed where she was for now.
A week had passed since the Queen Pirates had escaped Aityaia Island. Neither Shinobi nor Marines had been following them, at least they hadn't spotted any. The full extent of their time could be spend relaxing while La Colmena carried them forward. Of course the thoughts about what happened during the last months were still haunting her mind.
Questions about Abejorro and the criminal network she was leading: How long was she like this? Had Melosa's father's death driven her to crime or had she always done this? And why would she have kept it a secret from her daughter?
Questions about El Roble and their plans to blow the South Blue to pieces. Were herself, Shin and Louisa really enough to face such a powerful force? What if they were too late?
Questions about Lieutenant Lea Koshinawa and her wrath towards Melosa and her crew, despite their innocence. Had they really escaped for good? If not, was there any way to prove the truth to her? And would she even care at this point or just hunt them regardless?
And finally, questions about the Shinobi of Rokkakku, especially Bendan's fate. Hopefully the boy was alright. Thinking about it now, she could have asked him to come on board. There really was no future for this kid back home, he had angered too many people.
But for now, she tried to suppress her thoughts about all this as best as she could. What good was life if one was worrying all the time? Instead, the pirate princess tried to focus on what new clothes she should get herself once the opportunity to do so would show itself. In her fight with Lea, her usual outfit had basically been destroyed. Too many of her little slashes had ripped tears in her top and skirt. Right now, her entire body was bandaged up as best as they could manage. Every inch of her body except for the head and necks was wrapped in it. Of course they weren't proper doctors so the healing process would still take time, but it had to do for now. Thankfully, the noble girl had taken more than one pair of clothes with her from home, thus she had still had something to put on for emergencies at least: A sleeveless top with thick horizontal blue and white stripes and black spaghetti straps and bright yellow hot pants. The rest of her regular wear was still intact: bright leather gloves to cover the holes in her hands and knee high black high heels. The yellow feathers in her hair were still there as well, revealing her heritage from the Queendom. It would do until she could find something new in a store somewhere.
All of the sudden, the shout of a woman interrupted Melosa's trail of thought:
"Hellooo? Can anyone hear me?"
In surprise, Melosa shot up from her comfortable position - and immediately regretted it as the pain of her wounds started flaring up. Wheezing, she sat there bent over for a few seconds or two, trying not to cry out.
"Hellooo?"
The voice seemed to come from below deck somewhere, but it wasn't one she had ever heard before. And it wasn't muffled by the wood, which was strange.
"Anyoooone? I'm coming up now!"
Eventually the aching in her limbs stopped. At the same time, she realised that the voice wasn't coming from somewhere inside the ship. It came from somewhere in the water!
The beehive woman opened her mouth to respond, but it was too late.
Accompanied by a loud splashing sound, something came flying over the railing at full speed. A fish! Or a woman? It had a pink fin, but the upper body of a human. Chest long messy purple hair was surrounding her head. A white lab coat, thrown over an equally white shirt, fluttered behind her slender figure like a cape. Her ice-blue eyes met with Melosa's startled green ones - before she collided face forward with the wooden floor. The wham noise was so loud it would definitely wake up anyone still sleeping in the crew's quarters.
"Ouch!"
"Oh my god are you okay!?" screamed Melosa. If it didn't hurt so much she would have run over to look at her.
In response the stranger pushed herself up into a straight sitting position and smiled at the lady in the chair.
"Hey, I'm Kia!"
"Y-your nose is bleeding."
Kia ignored that comment. As well as the obvious shock she had caused.
"Where am I?"
"You're a mermaid."
"I'm sorry?"
"You're a mermaid."
