For a long moment he closed his eyes, shutting the world out. It made him queasy to see nothing of his surroundings when he knew that his enemies were just beside him, but it also helped him think more focused on a single thing for there were less distractions to bother him. Unfortunately while there were less from the outside to distract him there were suddenly more distractions from the inside. His heartbeat sounded stronger now that he had his eyes closed and his focus on the inside of his mind, which was still painfully connected to his body. There was still a lot of numb pain, but also hunger. How long had it been since he had last eaten something? An eternity if he listened to his belly for the hunger was nagging at him. Kyou’s head felt faint, most likely because of a combination of blood loss, lack of sleep and hunger.
He had addressed the problem of the wounds as good as he could already and while he tried his best to stay awake, closing his eyes like this already made him drift off to the world of sleep. With a lot of effort he opened his eyes again. Harder, much harder than he expected it to be, even though he knew that his energy reserves were close to zero.
But he still couldn’t rest. Not yet. There were still things to do.
Rubbing his eyes Kyou reluctantly let the blanket slip off his shoulders. The warmth it provided was only going to make him sleepier.
Kyou gave Pluto a faint frown, or rather he had returned to his normal frowning face when he put away the blanket, but the corner of the mouth still twitched. “You want to go first? That’s fine with me, go ahead.” If the bat boy wanted to be the one doing the main attack then that suited him nicely. Kyou had never been very enthusiastic about the whole plan anyway. Though he had to admit that he would have preferred to have a long range weapon to not have to get close at all, but inside the ship this wouldn’t help him anyway. Not like he was any good with guns anyway, his weapon has always been the sword. In fact it had always been this one wooden sword that he was still carrying with him.
Something in his face, or maybe in his voice must have alarmed the other boy for he gave Kyou a very explicit warning not to ditch him during the fight. Kyou had to admit that Bat Boy wasn’t completely wrong in suspecting him. He and Pluto weren’t friends after all so there was no reason for Kyou to not act like the dirty coward he was.
“Don’t worry.” He told Pluto, but with his rasping and husky voice it was probably not sounding very convincing. Some guys had voices that instilled immediate trust into all people who listened to it. His voice wasn’t one of them.
But fortunately Pluto was looking too enraged by what the umbrella woman had said to pay much attention to him right now. “So his father was an assassin huh. And the umbrella woman knows quite a lot about this boy, that’s interesting.”
Maybe that information would be usable later on. Right now he didn’t see how it would help him.
With a deep sigh he stood up again and faintly waved his hand to get their attention, with the other one he was holding the corner of the blanket. Having the umbrella woman’s attention on him didn’t feel very nice but he had to do so or his plan would never work. “I’m hungry and I’m sleepy.” He told them and at least in this he probably looked like he honestly meant it. “But as much as I’d like to go to sleep for a while, there are still things to do.” He paused for a moment to make sure they were listening. “If you want your ambush to work we need to make sure that no one expects it. That means we need to hide the guys on deck a bit better, or the first crew member that stumbles over them will set off the alarm.” His pale green eyes locked on to Pluto’s violet eyes to make sure that the boy understood this importance. Beside them umbrella woman made a small noise that sounded a bit like “tsss” but he ignored it. She probably just thought him a fool for not doing so in the first place. “I go hide them better and you can turn in you-know-what and fly into the navigator's room to search for a map of the ship, so we can find out where the captain sleeps. Get us some food if you can” Without waiting for a confirmation he turned around and went to the door where the umbrella woman was still standing. She looked unwilling to let him pass. For a moment he stopped and just stood there in front of her. Both were measuring the other with a skeptical look. “You don’t expect us to win a fight on an empty stomach?” he asked her. “You can accompany me if you don’t trust me. I will do just what I have just told you.” Kyou offered her. It really wouldn’t matter to him if she came along or not. But the woman just shrugged, looking rather bored than mistrustful for the moment. Maybe that was her true feeling or maybe she was just hiding her feelings behind that face, it did not matter for she cleared the way for him. “Straight down this corridor then right, right, up the stairs, left then down the stairs again, straight from there and two times up on the stairs on the right to get out of here again, right?” he asked her after a moment of trying to recall the way they had come. She raised an eyebrow. “Nearly.” She said with a voice that wasn’t exactly purring but had some whispering quality to it. “It’s right after the first flight of stairs.” Kyou closed one eye, his mind went over the mental map again and nodded in agreement of his mistake. The blanket was still in his hand so he pulled it around himself again. It was likely to still be cold outside after all.
