The night had covered his arrival, or maybe the crew’s attention had been directed solely elsewhere when he had landed on the ship, which left Kyou undetected by anyone for now. No one was around, but a set of gunfire must have convinced him that it was better to get up already. For he slowly picked himself up and scuffled over to a near wooden wall, looking quite ridiculous since the lacking shoe on his left gave his walk a strange look. There he leaned against the wall, or maybe it was some piled up wooden boxes that pretended to be a wall and slowly raised his hands as if he was surrendering to someone invisible. There he waited while the blood flew out of his arms and back into his body. His head started to clear a bit, but the bruise still pulsed.
What did he have here?
A big ship.
Not much crew around. At least not on this part of the ship. But surely there had to be some, for big ships like this one needed people to steer and pilot it. And lots of other crew members for all the little and big work that needed doing, like cooking and cleaning and whatnot.
They were fighting something or someone he couldn’t see from his point of view. All the sounds indicated that the fight was going only in one direction, for there was no audible answer to the soaring cannonballs which came from the ship he was on.
His arms were feeling less heavy now, so he let them drop. And stood there waiting.
Steps approached the spot where he was standing and he slid around the corner of the boxes just in time to hide himself from the passing sailors. The steps faded into the night and once again he was alone.
This situation was just the worst. Nowhere to go and hiding was a pain since he’d have to find a good place first. Kyou tapped against one of the wooden boxes, but the sound disturbed the silence and didn’t help him at all in finding out what was inside them.
A quick glance around told him that no one had heard him. But a movement caught his eye nevertheless. It wasn’t one on the ship. It was a shadow in the night sky that alerted his attention. What the hell was that? It looked like it had wings, so it certainly wasn’t another kite and what were the chances anyway of another kite flying around the night sky? The way it moved reminded him of an animal more than anything else and it troubled him for his feeling told him that it was heading in his direction.
He shifted himself around the big boxes yet again.
