“There’s only been a few times that the dock chiefs and I have worked together on a single project.” As the mayor began to regale those around with the story of the ship, Samba Deflor was one person who did not give him a whole lot of attention, the man’s speech beyond something of a ‘background track’ as she felt her toes inching closer and closer to the crimson craft in front of her. For all of the earlier need she had to impress the man, when this ‘salamander’ had entered the scene, the dancer had been unable to focus on anything but it. Crawling across the short waters that kept it from the shipyard, the little dragon almost looked as if it was warily wondered who these strangers were in front of it.
“But after building a certain sunflower, we decided to get together once in a while and build something special.” Nodding without paying much heed to the words that the president imparted, as the girl from Carnivala crept closer to the dock which the scarlet ship seemed to align with, the man seemed to continue on, her lack of attention not becoming an obstacle.
“You’ve met one of the chiefs, by the way, he was the one your friend argued with earlier? There’s also another pair of equally ‘unique’ individuals by the name of Lulu and Tilestone. For all of their faults, they’re the best shipbuilders in the land, alongside me.” Letting the information waft from one ear to another, the girl felt herself longing to see the salamander up close, and feel the wood from which it was made.
I wonder how it will feel? The tactile sensation being something that Samba suddenly felt she craved the most, subtly the girl began to understand why she had placed such a strong emphasis on finding the right ship, and why she found this one so enthralling. Wood was strong and tough, and something that the blonde felt she could hold for as long as she wanted, unlike the flesh of others. Hearing stories from the sailors that stopped off to enjoy the fun of her festive homeland, many had referred to the ships not as some sort of means but rather a friend. When one was stuck in the middle of the ocean, there was nothing that one might love more than a sturdy supporter who carried you to safety on its back. To the dark skinned girl, the ship that she sought was as much of an ally as Fifi or Olivia could be to her, and that’s why she was determined to find one that she could love as much as any nakama, and happily the young woman now thought that she had found it.
“Anyway that ship, it’s called the ‘Hitokage’ by the way, is one such rare project. We decided to put something special out for the race tomorrow, and she’s just coming back in from her final test run.” Ear perking up as Iceburg mentioned the name of her new ‘friend’, Samba turned back to the docking craft with a soft smile as if she had just been introduced.
Nice to meet you, Hitokage… Grinning as the ship slowly drew in, the girl’s eyes had no focus for the figures that ran her, and instead could only look at the bulbous mounds on top of its figurehead as if she was caught in its gaze. Innocent, and with a smile that seemed to contain equal measures of purity and cheer, when looking at the salamander ship one felt like an adorable child was looking back at them. Looking onward, at a goal that Samba could not quite follow,’Hitokage’ seemed to be staring at something with great hope and ambition, it’s big and black eyes containing only earnestness for the task that laid ahead of it. For certain, this little ship seemed like it would do any and every thing that it could to help you reach your dreams, because from what the dancer saw, it’s dream was to go there with you.
“It’s absolutely one of our finest works, built to be the fastest ship to ever cross the waters, and from the looks of how quickly she returned, it seems our small salamander is living up to the expectation…”
The words of the man ringing true for the girl as well, now that the craft was in front of her, the little caravel class ship seemed to deliver everything that it had promised when sitting on the horizon. Full of character, indeed hearts and souls had been poured into the birth of this little ‘baby’, and it seemed as proud itself as any of its parents could be. Talked up by the president, it almost seemed like Hitokage was listening and agreeing with what the man said, its little head bobbing up and down in agreement with the man who had made it.
Such a cutie… Fawning over the ship like one might love a kitten or puppy, as the shadows of the crew drifted past the tunnel vision of the woman, she crept closer still to the bobbing head, and gave into her temptation. Palm pressed against the smooth and water-slicked wood that made up the craft’s figurehead, as Samba touched the ‘nose’ of the little dragon, it seemed to sigh happily back at her. The heat of her skin turning the oceans spray to gentle vapour, sizzling softly as the creature seemed to be pushed by the waves a little closer into her grip.
“She likes me!” Piping up happily as she took the action for far more than most others would, with a broad grin the girl from Carnivala spun on her heel and looked toward Ffion and Iceburg, giddy with the excitement that the encounter had given her.
“C-Can I keep her?” Flustered and frantic and filled with excitement like a child who had brought home a stray, the green eyes of the girl could not seem to find much of a focus on what was around them, flashing from the faces of Fifi, Iceburg and then to the ship itself. Practically bouncing up and down as she behaved so childishly, it was with no small degree of innocence that the girl revealed she had been ignorant to the entirety of the conversation since the ship had sidled up…
