What a wonderful day! Melosa had taken a quick nap down in her captain's room. Jumping out of her bed and throwing on her clothes, she thought about what to do next. It had become apparent that she had miscalculated the food supplies they would need to sail straight to the Silver Islands. They had to stop somewhere else first to buy something to eat. While she slipped in her shoes, she examined the map. The closest place was probably Dauntaun. She had read about it back home and didn't like the thought of it very much, but what else was there to do.
She climbed up the ladder up to the deck and into the cabin. The orange walls of the hive surrounded her. This ship was hers now. Even after several days’ worth of sailing, she hadn't realized that fully yet.
Shin and Chase had to be out on deck; at least they weren't in here. Grabbing a piece of bread on the kitchen counter, the captain of La Colmena strolled outside. The sun was standing high in the sky, a cold, strong breeze was howling through the air. Melosa took a deep breath. Her lungs filled with the fresh air. What a wonderful day!
Indeed, she found her Crew outside here.
"Boys!" she claimed, looking in the sky, "We have a new goal! Our supplies are running out and we need more. The closest place we can go to is Dauntaun, the famous steel mill island. Let's use this wind and change course!"
And so they did.
Soon, they could see the southwest side of island. A giant cloud of filthy black smoke hovered over the coast, so thick that the sunlight could barely reach down to the people. As they got closer, they could identify four gigantic metal towers to their left. According to what Melosa had read about the island, these belonged to the ruling noble families. To their right, they could see a massive industrial complex - one of the steel mills this island was so famous for.
Coming closer, the noises also became louder and louder. Screeching of machines, hissing of flames, boiling steel and shouting people. This was truly a place completely different from anything Melosa had ever seen with her own eyes.
The port was filled with merchant ships, but also a pirate vessel here and there. Apparently they didn’t watch the port that much. Carefully, they maneuvered the fat Colmena between to bigger merchant ships. Most likely nobody would notice them here.
"Alright men!" Melosa yelled "We need food and other supplies for our journey! Let's go and explore the city here!"
She was laughing in excitement again. What a wonderful day!
