[/sub][/ul]All members have the right to create characters loyal to the Marines. Such characters can be just as unique as pirates, but are instead members of the World Government’s military force and strive to enforce the law against such villainous scourge as pirates and the Revolutionary Army. It is your job as a Marine to uphold the law and promote Justice!
Bon Voyage uses a range of available Ranks for Marines, denoting their position and status among the forces of the World Navy. Each Marine character is expected to select a rank as appropriate during their creation, but it is up to the member for the most part. A character’s assigned Rank is not comparable to their Class in any way – it is almost entirely for in character purposes, though some of our site’s systems will reflect on a Marine’s position. Now, you can’t have a full-fledged Captain straight off the bat, but you can opt in to being either a Soldier or an Officer, as your character’s design dictates. Both are important to the continual efforts of Justice and, aside from a few minor things, both are entitled to pretty much the same kind of stuff.
As a character earns EXP they can freely rise through the ranking systems, so long as they have achieved the required minimum values for whatever rank you want them to become. Members can adjust and dictate their character’s stories as they see fit, just as if they were playing a character of a different faction, and we allow you to promote (or even demote) your character to help fit with this. This applies up until a certain limit, detailed later, at which point you will require staff approval in order to progress and climb the ladder. What are the Ranks?
Ranks are divided into two categories – Soldiers and Officers – which you can select according to your character. These are determined by a character’s current Class and EXP, though you don’t have to force promotion upon your character unless you want to do so. It’s more than possible to have a Seaman reach B Class if that’s what you want to do! Rank does not affect what your character is entitled to, though you will need to be an Officer if you wish to lead your own separate Marine unit or division. Otherwise, you can happily be part of any existing crew or base, or make your own NPC Officers up (make sure to ask permission if you want to join another member’s division!).
E Class (0 EXP)
Characters may start out at any of the following Ranks, as appropriate for their character.
Characters below the age of 17 should typically start out as a Chore Person (a Chore Boy or a Chore Girl), but are entitled to start out as a Seaman Recruit if their background supports it. A Seaman Recruit is a soldier who has freshly joined the Marines. A Seaman Apprentice is a more experienced soldier who has served for at least several months and has finished their regulation training. A Seaman First Class is the highest rank of soldier available at E – they have often served for a year or more, or have enough experience under their belt already to be entitled to this position when they joined the World Navy. A Warrant Officer is the only officer rank available to E Class characters, but entitles them to lead their own small specialist regiment or division, typically under supervision of a higher ranking officer (which may be an NPC).
D CLASS (150 EXP)
Once you’ve reached this benchmark, or if your character was purchased using a Pro Package, you can freely select from any of the following ranks. You can also still choose from any of the ranks listed for E Class if you so wish.
Both Petty Officers and Chief Petty Officers are types of soldier often placed in charge of leading a unit within a division and are not true officers – the CPO is typically the more battle/leadership experienced of the two. Ensigns and Lieutenants (Junior Grade) are viable officer choices for characters of this Class and may be placed in charge of their own small divisions, though they may often be under supervision from a higher ranking officer, just like with Warrant Officers. A character must be at least ranked Ensign or above to be eligible to wear a Justice Coat.
Low C Class (500 EXP)
Characters who have achieved this benchmark, or have been purchased with a Senior Package, are entitled to a selection of any of the aforementioned ranks. They may also freely select from any of the following ranks, suiting their character.
An MCPO (Master Chief Petty Officer) is the highest available soldier rank and is considered a very important rank on par with a Warrant Officer. Lieutenants and Lieutenant Commanders are both medium grade officer ranks that may have complete charge of their own division and, though they typically still report to a higher ranking officer, it is not customary for them to be supervised. These are the highest ranks of both categories that members can reach without need for staff approval.
High C Class (1,000 EXP)
When a character has reached this benchmark, they become eligible to apply for further promotion, requiring staff approval. They may opt into applying for any of the following ranks or benefits, depending on whether they are a soldier or an officer.
Our Honors system is reserved for Marine soldiers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Honors are a means of rising in fame and recognition within the World Navy without need for promotion, akin to medals awarded for acts of valor. Commanders, Captains and Commodores are higher ranking officers who take full charge of a battleship or flotilla (a small fleet).
B Class (1,500 EXP)
Characters who have reached this legendary milestone are entitled to further Honors or ranks as shown below, though you must still apply for them, requiring staff approval. You do not have to climb this high up the ladder if you don’t want to.
Both these types of Admiralty are the highest available officer ranks on Bon Voyage and are often left in charge of entire fleets. Please bear in mind that achieving these ranks has additional requirements – Vice Admirals are all supposedly proficient in the use of Haki, so characters will not be entitled to this rank until they have at least learned how to use Haki.
Chore Person
A person does not have to meet the minimum entry age of 17 to be able to serve the World Navy! Though you may not be a soldier or an officer, those too young or inexperienced to serve can still take up the duties that keep the Marines going. A large scale force needs young and willing volunteers to aid in the cleaning and upkeep of their ships and bases - bastions against the forces of villainy need to look clean and well-kept! Those young individuals who prove themselves in diligence and efficiency are the best candidates for the Marines - age becomes no obstacle for those who can prove themselves!
Soldiers and such who break regulations might find themselves punished by being temporarily demoted to this unofficial rank. Additionally, pirates who somehow manage to redeem themselves are often included among this duty as a test, and may end up being instated as Seamen if they prove themselves.
Uniform
Chore Boys and their female counterparts wear standard Marine attire - a white shirt, navy blue pants, black boots and a blue neckerchief - but do not don the baseball cap shown by official soldiers and officers.
Seaman Recruit
Seaman Apprentice
Seaman First Class
Seaman Apprentice
Seaman First Class
Many young men and women join the World Navy on a daily basis, seeking glory, desiring to protect the people and uphold Justice, or for the sake of vengeance upon piratical raiders and Revolutionaries who have wronged them. Those of age 17 find themselves bestowed this rank, joining the rank and file of the Marines as they undergo basic training regimes and drills. You’re just a drop in the ocean, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a splash! Just make sure to listen to your superior officers, do as they say and find that Justice can be enforced in the simplest of places.
Those that have completed their standard enlistment training enter the rank of Seaman Apprentice, though they may often still be subject to training and drills as necessitated by their commanding officers - it all depends on which division they belong to. And finally, the Seaman First Class is a rank given to those brave soldiers who have completed their training in the World Navy, or are considered able and experienced enough (due to past experience) to be able to serve immediately as a soldier.
Uniform
Seamen (and Seawomen) wear the standard sailor’s uniform; a white shirt and navy blue three-quarter length pants, black boots and a blue neckerchief. As per usual, they don the white baseball cap, emblazoned with the blue seagull insignia and the word MARINE.
Petty Officer
Chief Petty Officer
Chief Petty Officer
Ranked higher among the file of soldiers who serve the World Navy diligently, these men and women are experienced soldiers who have likely tasted the bitterness of war, or have served with such promise that they are now enlisted to lead platoons within their respective divisions. Though you may command only a fraction of a force under the orders of your superiors, it is your efforts that can shape the battlefield - uphold Justice and show the Recruits how its done!
The CPO is ranked above the Petty Officer, but still serves a similar duty; their rank dictates their experience and successes as an individual amidst the crowds of law enforcers who make up the Marines, and thus many are in their mid to late twenties.
Uniform
As with the Seamen and women, Petty Officers are clad in the typical sailor uniforms worn by the Marines. However, many show their uniforms tailored to better suit them, allowing them to stand out as individuals. Custom attire is permitted.
Master Chief Petty Officer
The rank of MCPO is the highest available rank of soldier in the Marines, the top dogs of the World Navy’s front line forces, and thus hold great responsibility. You must be deserving of this rank, whether through continuous effort or great success in your career as a Marine. Such a rank is effectively equal to a Warrant Officer, allowing an MCPO to take charge of a larger regiment of seamen and women, though they are still restricted to leading platoons under the command of a superior officer.
Uniform
An MCPO is entitled to the same uniform as that of the other Petty Officer ranks.
Warrant Officer
A Warrant Officer is someone assigned the position of charge by order of a specific warrant, rather than being fully commissioned, but is the first step on the ladder to becoming a fully fledged officer of the World Navy. Essentially, they are either serving as temporary officers or are undergoing such things as part of their training to become an officer, particularly in the case of younger Marines. You still count as an officer for all intents and purposes and may be given charge of a small ship and its crew, serving a particular base or as part of a fleet.
Uniform
The WO is entitled to wear attire as they see appropriate to their duty, though they are expected to wear appropriately colored dress and display their position and rank when on duty.
Ensign
Lieutenant Junior Grade
Lieutenant Junior Grade
The lowest ranking members among the commissioned officers of the World Navy, but no less important; an Ensign is often one of the superior officers on a ship, commanding a portion of the crew under order from their own superiors. They may often be placed in charge of a medium-sized vessel as part of a base’s unit, or within a fleet, or otherwise act as a second-in-command aboard such ships. The Junior Grade Lieutenant fulfills a near identical role to that of their Ensign counterparts, but is a step above them in terms of position of leadership and authority. Neither rank commands a vessel of their own without supervision from a superior officer, but are valuable members of larger crews - you are the link between the higher echelons and the rank and file.
Uniform
An Ensign or Junior Grade Lieutenant may wear whatever attire they see fit and appropriate to their duty; though it is typical of them to wear a suit of some form, they only do so if they wish to. Some opt into wearing more standard sailor attire, or completely custom garb. Above all, they are the lowest ranks entitled to wear the Justice Coat, which bears the Kanji 正義 (Seigi, Justice) upon its back.
Lieutenant
Lieutenant Commander
Lieutenant Commander
These ranks are the middle bracket of the World Navy, consisting of men and women who have earned their position through hard work and display of promise. Though you will often still be considered a second-in-command when holding this rank, the fact of the matter is that many LTs are given command of supporting vessels as part of their superior’s base or fleet, to command under their own charge. Though you are still expected to listen to your own commanding officer should they need you, you are entitled to command your vessel under your own jurisdiction.
Uniform
As is normal for officers, men and women of these ranks often don their own chosen attire, with those of LT Commander often showing preference to wearing a suit. The Justice Coat is permitted, as is normal for officers.
Commander
Captain
Commodore
Captain
Commodore
These are some of the highest ranking members of the Marines, leading entire battle ships into action, or commanding bases of their own. You are the de facto leader of your division, though you are still expected to obey the orders of those above you as per the norm. Commanders and then Captains are the lowest of this range of rank, in charge of their own battleships under normal circumstances, whilst Commodores are the highest rank and are often given full command of a flotilla - that is a small fleet of three to five vessels. The experience and battle skill of these individuals is often duly noted, a vital part of having this rank is being considered strong enough - physically and mentally - to lead such numbers of men.
Uniform
As per the standard, officers of these ranks may wear custom attire, along with the Justice Coat. The vast majority tend to don suits of personal color choice, though it is by no means a necessity; it just looks more professional.
