Name of Base: B-2
Size of Base: Very Large
Location: South Blue, Viktas Island, Southern Rim.
Base Appearance:
Perhaps the newest of the Blue Bases, the fortress on Viktas Island is a nigh impregnable regional headquarters, training center and dry-dock built into one of the large mountains that call the island home. It was decided about 30 years before the current age that a new base in the South Blue was needed, and after a battle with the most notorious pirate of the area the World Government discovered this artic island of floating ice. The island itself is a nothing more than a large sheet of ice that sinks deep below the water, with a single mountain springing out of a series of glaciers at the center of the ice sheet. As there was very little traffic in the area, the Marine Expeditionary Force sent to explore the island had to break ice in their movement to this one recognizable structure. Enough history though that should be enough to set us on the right path.
From that original ice-break formed by the Marines as they followed the trail of a now forgotten pirate into the ice crags of the island now sits a dock with its small town attached. The docks are quartered on all sides by heavy glaciers of ice, and whittled out of the stuff themselves. Built on this glossy material is a stone pier and stone causeway with materials shipped from the hollowing out of the center mountain. While all World Government personnel live inside of the fortress located further inland, some people have come in the last 30 years of so to create the little village. The entrance to the Marine Dry-Dock is located on another beachhead, leaving this port with only trade and what very little tourism there is. The dock can hold about 20 ships, and the town has three inns and perhaps 3 dozen houses, all shaped in a domed manner to avoid the accumulation of snow on the roof. As you leave the town and its low stone wall you can see the single trail heading up the only road to the hulking structure in the middle of the island.
Because the ice-drift itself is part of the island the actual town is not all that far from the center of the island, perhaps three days of walking. In between the two places are a series of small forts built much like the buildings of the town, large domes made of stone and compacted against the weather around them. These forts act as forward training posts for the soldiers and waypoints for anyone walking the island for god knows what reason. But yes, after the march the mountain comes into full view, no longer a distant monument but a massive titan of stone. It can easily house 20,000 soldiers and is generally seen as a fallback point for all Marines in a doomsday scenario. While the Mountain itself is a natural creation, the base that was whittled from it inside and out is certainly a newly finished affair. Only one road leads into the compound, between the glaciers that surround it. A multi-tiered stone tower acts as the sentry and the front gate for the base. After one enters the tower they are sent below ground and into the base proper.
B-2 is simple in its design, the largest facilities are both below ground and at the base of the mountain. Then in almost perfect order the smaller and more secret pieces of the base, capped by the command center on the peak. The fortress contains the Cold-Weather Training Center, where all Marines that will be serving on Winter Islands must training to deal with the environmental concerns. It also houses the largest Dry-Dock in the Blues, which allows ships of all sizes to be repaired and produced. This dock can only be accessed from the entryway located on the East side of the West side of the island through a heavily guarded cut in the ice that enters a rather large ice cave/tunnel. Finally B-2 acts as a the South Blue Regional HQ, and all operations are conducted out of this facility. It should be stated that very little happens outside of the base with the exception of training. The inside of B-2 is climate controlled by a massive underground geyser and hot spring, discovered by stepping in a curiously hot puddle of water one day while exploring the caves of the mountain. The leadership does not even have to leave the base if they choose not to, and it is said that the current leader almost refuses to.

Base History:
Viktas was discovered while hunting a pirate, so one could imagine that it has seen its share of interesting things. However, whenever and whatever they were is unknown, as by the time the Marines did arrive on the island to finish off their pursuit of “Old Snowbeard” the place was dead to the world, with all tracks of life before the present snowstorm piled under the never-ending ice. The pirate they had been chasing had brought people there, who had made a rather expansive cave system in the lone mountain deep within the icy continent. So after torching the pirates fleet and expelling the remaining people from the caves of this Mountain, called by the inhabitants as Giant, the Marines decided to make this place their own little hideout. Within the 30 years that have passed since then an ungodly amount of resources have been put into the project, turning Giant into the Marine Base B-2. From the miles of pipe to transfer the hot water from the underwater hot springs, to creating the many squad and platoon sized dome camps throughout the country the time and effort to make a top-notch base has not gone unnoticed.
While B-2 is still a new base it has a wealth of potential. As it is located at the most south area of the South Blue. It is considered to be backwater by many, but it is secretly close enough to many water drifts that Marines from all corners of the Grand Line and Blues can reach it safely, if they can pass the frozen water that is. Recently though, with the increased funding to the Marines and the new Admirals desire to make them a more effective and competent fighting force the base is seeing a large increase in activity. Things are starting to pick up in the deep south, and B-2 is coming alive once more with troops. We will have to see what it all means…
