Grinning from ear to ear, Luffy felt pretty victorious. Not that he was the type to gloat (well, not THAT much at least) about his victories. The most he did was celebrate after with his crew mates, knocking back a ton of alcohol and woofing down more than enough food for an entire army in one sitting. In fact, once they dealt with the Captain with the weird claw things, whoever the heck he was, Luffy was planning on doing just that with a loud shout at Sanji for food. he was sure Phoenix would enjoy herself. Of course, that was without him considering that he usually swiped a lot of people's foods during these sorts of celebrations. Phoenix would have to keep an eye out.
The victory dinner was a far too preemptive though, however, for the Captain of the other vessel had one last evil trick in mind. He actually stole Phoenix directly off of the Thousand Sunny and swung back over to his ship with her before their vessel began to sail off.
"PHOENIX!" Luffy shouted, reaching out but too late to do anything to stretch himself to their ship. Their vessel was pretty fast and was also firing upon the Thousand Sunny at the same time. Whatever the other Straw Hats were doing, they clearly weren't around to knock those back away from their ship so Luffy had to take care of that. Expanding, he bounced them away into the Ocean harmlessly, making sure to aim them away from the enemy craft. As much as he would like to, Phoenix was on board and he couldn't risk her getting hurt.
By the time he finished with that, they were almost at another Island nearby which looked like it was a jungle Island. Despite the distance and the high probability that she probably wouldn't hear him, Luffy sucked in a deep breath and shouted,
"PHOENIX!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T WORRY! I'M COMING SOON!"
With that conviction rising in the air and resounding with absolute truth, Luffy put on a determined face and rushed to get the Thousand Sunny headed in the right direction.
"Arerere?" he questioned though, scratching his head as he looked at the helm of the Thousand Sunny. When had the last time been that he had operated this? Thinking on that, while making a face that said that he probably wasn't thinking all that intensely, Luffy realized that Nami, Franky and sometimes even Usopp were the only ones to real deal with it.
Grinning mischievously, Luffy sat down on the bench in front of the steering wheel and clapped his sandals together as he looked at the dials before he leaned forward.
"HOoooo!" This was how that Mini Merry had come out before! Luffy smartly, for once, turned the dial to 2 (it was because there was a diagram on the dials) and waited with sparkles shining in his eyes. Mini Merry was so cool! And he had wanted to ride it so badly! Plus it would get him to the Island. Nothing happened though. Luffy even had rushed over to the side of the ship and had leaned over to get a better look. Still nothing.
Frowning, he grunted and then went back over to the helm, stomping his feet along the way.
"Stupid thing!" He said, kicking his leg out to strike the helm but instead hitting the lever. There was a clicking sound and then something happened; he could hear gears moving. The door with the giant red number 2 written on it slid upward and the Mini Merry II slid out.
Luffy made a loud sound of amazement and then leaped into the Mini Merry excitedly, bouncing around inside of it because he couldn't contain his excitement. Finally over it in a matter of a few seconds, Luffy sat down with a more intent look on his face.
"Wait for it, Phoenix, I'm coming!"
Despite the seriousness of his claim, when he started up the Mini Merry II it rocketed far faster than he had originally thought it would and he was thrown back, he whipped the wheel around on accident with his arms flailing and ended up going in a circle repeatedly a few times before finally zipping off at a high speed toward the Island.
