This thread is open to anyone wishing to join. Just state that you were on the ship traveling or investigating the disappearances.
The meat had gone sour in his mouth... Too old, no longer fresh or worth biting into. Nothing left to eat, at least nothing clawing for the surface in hopes of one last lung full of air. There was a fire blazing for life on one of the last planks of wood yet to sink below the water. That would die too, everything about that ship would die. They deserved to die. He moved, pulling himself up and tightly gripping the heavy metal blade that had lead to all of this carnage. Its tip dragging against the bottom of the life boat. He sniffed at the air....
Music danced around the air, people laughed, talked and made merry. A woman laughed louder than the rest, she turned to show off her new dress, nothing expensive, but it fit her frame nicely and she looked radiant. A man fell back out of his chair as he leaned back to far and everyone laughed loudly. A group of older men at the side of the deck gathered quietly to tell stories and enjoy the company of their peers. At the head of the ship a mother and father held there child tightly while he peeked over the edge of the ship. He pointed at the water and laughed the way only innocent children can. Warm and full of a life yet to be lived.
All of these people had boarded a small merchant ship willing to sell their free room to passengers wishing to cross one blue to the next. A passenger asked one of the crew how long it would be until they reach their destination but he says he isn't sure. He sounds more worried than anything else. He walks away leaving the passenger confused and a little worried as well. Whispers in the crew about disappearances in the east blue, ships gone without a trace in the wide wide ocean. The Captain said it wasn't anything to worry about, said he would stake is life on it. Probably not the best way to put words of encouragement.
That smell, life, people, meat... Another ship was coming. It was the what? Third? Fifth? Couldn't be sure. Didn't really care either which made it all so much simpler. He pushed his heavy blade through the water like a paddle. Eventually the small life boat would intercept the new ship... Minutes? A little longer maybe. Didn't matter, it was almost time to feed.
The people wandered about, it was all about time management after all. Keep from being too bored for long enough and you eventually reach where you are going. Pretty simplistic way to describe life really. Some played games, some sung songs, most just talked. The crew had calmed down a fair deal, hard to stay worried on such a beautiful day after all. Then someone was pointing, shouting something. It was a woman and her voice sounded shrill. As her husband calmed her down a bit she pointed again to a speck almost at the edge of sight. Its a boat she kept yelling, telling everyone that she had a bad feeling. Everyone else just seemed mildly concerned or worried. The captain wanted the boat brought up so they could pull out anyone in it.
He dived below the water, the sea was his world. The currents supporting his arms and legs. His eyes adjusted instantly to the change. It felt like he'd just eaten three meals, his strength was so much more in the ocean.
The life boat drew closer and the crewmen case lines down to pull it up to the deck of the ship. Someone was in the boat it seemed, covered up in blankets. If they'd been on the sea long enough they could well be on the verge of death. The men hurried in their task. As they finally tied off the boat others pulled back the blanket. Someone screamed, this time it was a man's voice.
He moved up against the bottom of the ship, his webbed clawed hand gently scrapping against the wood. He grinned a wicked and hungry grin... oh so very hungry.
The inside of the boat was red, and reeked of death. Men pulled their women back.
He pulled his arm back, his grip tensing on his blade.
Someone tried to make sense of it all. Another passenger simply wanted the boat cast back to the water.
They had no sense to them, hateful pathetic creatures. He just wanted them dead, cast back to the darkness that they came from.
A sailor gave the side of the life boat a kick and sent it back over the edge and into the water.
He gave the bottom of the boat a mighty slash, the wood splintering and breaking off around the cut.
The boat lurched, passengers and crewmen falling over. A few looked at the crew hand that had kicked the boat as if he had somehow caused the ship to rock. People cried out unsure about what was happening. Then the boat settled and all was quiet... how could they know that below deck the boat was flooding. How could they know they were all passengers on a sinking ship, and that a predator had just caught the sent of its next meal. Blood was in the water.
