(OOC: This a complete follow on from the last thread. Just continue what you were doing.)
"What is it we have that they want so badly?" wondered Alek.
The mystery marine faction that could blow apart brick mountains like leaf piles had now made it onto a dhow ship. Because of their superior speed they started to gain on the caravel the Chess Pirates owned. This was worrying, as Ilusia had become a relatively small splodge on the horizon. They were in open seas where no one would or could help them. A fully fledged pirate crew fresh into the lion's den.
The game was about to begin.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Alek sighed. He was all out of shells, and would have to restock at the next island. The marines had slowed down too, presumably notifying the marines on the next island through den den mushi of their arrival. They would probably arrest on sight. So there would be plenty of fighting when they landed. The occasional cannonball would fly harmlessly past, way wide of its intended target. The only pressing danger was the advancing dhow ship. According to Silo it contained at least one person who could effortlessly blow apart brick mountains. It seemed like he or they or it couldn't transfer that power over the air though, since there had been no attack from them for quite some time. Alek wondered what would happen when the marines caught up. Would they blow a hole in their boat?
He walked over to the railing, and ran 719 plans through his mind. The amount of times he made plans had nearly doubled since becoming the captain. Of course he was looking forward to it, it was just that he thought too much. His brain was filled with so much information that there might not ever be a need for it. The marines were intending to silence them all forever anyways, so it didn't matter too much if he got to say his piece. He would be allowed one final speech before his death. Alek chuckled. Knowing him it would be the longest speech in history, all of his knowledge spewing out to a crowd of people waiting for him to die. But for all his knowledge he hadn't really a faintest idea of where to start. He could go off, gallabanting to find One Piece! That would prove to everyone that he was pirate king! Or maybe he could turn into a crew of savage warriors, monopolising the seas!
Alek shook the thoughts from his head. He hadn't the time to let his mind wander. He had to focus on the matter at hand. Enemies were gaining fast, he had no decent long range weapons, and his crew were probably getting hungry.
"Shichi!" he called. "Go and make us some food, we can worry about the marines later!"
It was a casual order, and Alek didn't really expect any urgency from the rock skinned cook. There wasn't really any need for urgency. They would fight to the death, and go out like proper pirates should, if the advancing foe was that strong. Alek sighed, and got a chess set from his cloak. Surprisingly there was a table on deck, and he sat down and began to play. Without looking up he told everyone to go and get their rooms sorted.
"Optimistic." he muttered.
He chided himself mentally. He was thinking darkly again. He shook himself, and engrossed himself in the game. It went a lot faster than before, more like a game of bullet chess, and Alek was surprised at his speed.
"Maybe I practised in my sleep?" he murmured.
He stopped playing. The sun was starting to set, and the "Checkmate King" was a little alarmed to find how quickly the day had gone. It had been so eventful he hadn't noticed. He walked slowly to the stern of the caravel ship, and saw that the marines' dhow boat was even closer than before. It would take around twenty minutes for them to overtake. Alek sighed again, cursing because he didn't know what to do. Zelic couldn't take out all those enemies at once, the sceptre needed an upgrade, and the pistols in his fingers weren't taking down whole regiments any time soon. Wiatr would probably strangle him if he tried it on that many opponents.
For once, Alek was useless.
(OOC: Sorry for dumping a whole load of responsibility on you guys. You'll really have to take out swathes of marines by yourselves. I'll help, but I'll just tone down the fighting.)
