Background
Gargan was a young child when he ate the Mini no Mi, on an Island full of giants, he was a bit of an outcast, he was kidnapped by slave traders who noticed his devil fruit powers, thinking that a giant who could become the size of a normal human could be a massive powerhouse for the World Government. As he was struggling to flee the traders' boat he grew to his giant size, breaking the boat to pieces and causing the traders to drown. He would almost drown as well, if not for a floating plank of wood from the remaind of tbe boat in his tiny size.
He was rescued, with sheer luck, by Lumbargo, a young pirate captain and blacksmith in his mid 20's, who had scavenged the pieces of the trader's ship. He and Gargan got along well, and he told Gargan how he had faked his death to escape his pirate life, and took Gargan under his wing and trains him to become a top rate blacksmith. Gargan was taught that a weapon is only as good as the blacksmith who builds it, and a blacksmith's only limit is their creativity. After a few years Gargan and Lumbargo recruited more people to work in a blacksmithing company in a small village, even though they were oblivious to Lumbargo's past and Gargan's real identity. Lumbargo even told the young giant to not use his strength or his devil fruit unnecessarily.
Decades pass and Gargan becomes a skilled crafter and blacksmith, while Lumbargo has become elderly, yet the head of a massive company who created weapons structures and armor for pirates and marines alike. But one day while Lumbargo and Gargan were in town shopping for supplies, Lumbargo was being mugged, and Gargan, unable to see his mentor attacked, struck the mugger with such strength he demolished three buildings as a result, which called in the authorities and nearby Marines.
The Marines reveal that they have been looking for Lumbargo for years and the villagers and fellow blacksmiths find out that their boss was a pirate. But after the years of working under him, seeing a kind old man and a great boss, they refused to give him the Marines to face punishment.
Lumbargo was about to surrender himself, as he was dying. But before he could, a Marine had mistakenly thought Lumbargo was going to flee and shot him. The result was chaos, seeing his mentor shot dead, he grew to his true size and attacked the Marine group in revenge, but his fellow blacksmiths fought the Marines as well, enraged at what the Marines had done. Gargan's fellow workers told him he had to flee and resulted in the deaths of all workers. The event that had transpired became known as "the Forge Rebellion", which history portrays the Marines as heroes, that the villainous blacksmiths struck first, with Gargan as their leader.
